Innovation, Collaboration, and Integration Key to Future Success

BrownFlynn was pleased to participate in an invitation-only event, From the Pope to Paris and Beyond: New Expectations for Global Companies, hosted in Washington, DC, on September 22nd by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and World Environment Center. Leaders from The Dow Chemical Company, Kellogg Company, NRG Energy, and Verizon shared insights on their companies’ plans and progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The speakers shared several common themes in striving to meet the SDGs, most important of which were the need for greater innovation, collaboration, and integrating sustainability into overall business operations. Also at the event, the WBCSD showcased its new SDG Compass, a guide for business action on the SDGs.

National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Annual Conference

The NACD asked BrownFlynn to present at their annual conference in Washington, DC. NACD is the world’s leading organization focused on advancing exemplary board leadership and establishing leading boardroom practices. This year’s event, entitled the Global Board Leaders’ Summit, included a range of corporate responsibility and sustainability content throughout the program. BrownFlynn spoke on a panel entitled, “The Intersection of Risk and Sustainability.” Joining Managing Director Mike Wallace on the panel were Robert O’Brien, executive vice president and CFO of Forest City Enterprises (NYSE: FCE), Solomon Trujillo, Director, Western Union Co. (NYSE: WU), SouFun Holdings, WPP, PLC (NYSE:SFUN); and Chairman, Trujillo Group LLCas well as Executive Director, Global Risk Center, Alex Wittenburg, Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE:MMC).

BrownFlynn Participates in International Visitor Leadership Program

BrownFlynn had the unique opportunity to host journalists from Indonesia through the International Visitor Leadership Program led by the U.S. Department of State. The journalists were accompanied by members of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. BrownFlynn’s twenty year history of working with companies to embed sustainability practices into companies’ strategies was of particular interest to the journalists. Principal and Co-Founder Barbara Brown, Associate Consultant Jared Robbins, and Analyst Katie Lasco also outlined work going on locally and regionally in the green economy.

Nasdaq and BrownFlynn Conduct Third Webinar in Quarterly Series

In late September, BrownFlynn and Nasdaq, along with special guests from Harvard Law School’s Labor and Workforce Program, conducted its third webinar entitled, “How Human Capital Impacts Corporate Financial Performance.” The webinar highlights Harvard’s research on effective human capital management and its correlation to a company’s financial performance, as well as challenges investors face trying to incorporate these metrics into investment analyses.
