to join the London Design Festival.

Connecting the Dots returns to the London Design Festival from 22 – 25 September 2016 with the exhibition Enlightened Design. The stunning historic house at 4 Princelet Street plays host to the fourth edition of the Dots which presents the work of eight designers from the Netherlands.

An intriguing terrace house, seven Dutch designers: Enlightened Design presents an intimate exhibition that explores light, time and lightness. Time takes a leap of almost three centuries: in an authentic Georgian house, seven Dutch designers will exhibit their most recent work. Designers include Maarten Olden,  Femke van GemertJolanda van Goor, , Bo ReudlerStudio Hamerhaai and Morgan Ruben. Natural materials, repurposed techniques and imperfection are some of the themes covered in their work.

Spliners are made by cutting a parallelogram shaped block into 4 pieces following a certain curved line (spline). 5 different splines lead to 5 different types of Spliners. The 4 pieces are turned 180 degrees, after cutting,  and assembled together to form Spliners

Maarten Olden is busy expanding the Spliners collection. Miniature Spliners are being made. Using wire cutting, a technique used in making moulds for the plastic industry, a block of aluminium is cut in pieces. This CAD-driven process leads to producing 16 R4 Spliner bodies in one go. After this cutting, using a copper wire of only 0.2mm,  holes need to be drilled and the parts need to be further cut using a band-saw. The miniatures measure 76mm. The original Wooden Spliners measure 220mm. The miniature aluminium Spliners will be anodised in different colours. Underneath you will find some pictures of the prototyping process.
