Latest and greatest from the THINGS community
THINGS NEWS May 25 2015
Yes, we’re open!
Hard work, great partners and tough deadlines made it! We opened the doors to THINGS at March 26 and celebrated the event together with more than 300 personally invited friends, partners and members. The highlights of the evening where the inauguration when Linda cut a rebar with an angle grinder and the great speech by the first member of "THINGS Hall of Fame”: the co-founder of Axis Communications, Martin Gren. We got a flying start and are grateful to everyone involved.
Now we’re focusing on filling our 2000 m2 building on KTH Campus downtown Stockholm with startups focusing on hardware, relevant partners and a lot of events and action. And like if that’s not enough, the first and biggest Swedish makers organisation, Stockholm Makerspace, has moved into the basement. Our ambition is to create a community of great people and companies interested in hardware in and around our house. We have created, @sthlmthings and this newsletter to let people follow what’s up remotely.
Member news
Today we have 19 members at THINGS, all listed at They are primarily in IoT, wearables, 3D scanning/printing and eHealth. There are two ways to apply for a membership: either directly by filling in the member application at our web or by being selected as a STING company. Among the member highlights of this week was that Gleechi was elected Super Startup of the Year 2015 by Almi Invest and Veckans Affärer.
Partner news
The opening party became a great way for members and partners to get to know each other and our partners have already started planning and running activities at THINGS, often with members involved. We hope to announce new industry, technology, service and networking partners before summer to continue add energy and action at THINGS.
Events and activities
Meetings and interaction are core to THINGS and we want to keep our Lounge and Event space very busy. We’ve had a lot of different events to date including Stockholm IoT, LBMA, Stockholm Makerspace, Hyper Island, SMSE and internal partner and member events. We also had a breakfast meeting with Dr Richard Soley, executive director Industrial Internet Consortium with 90 attendees. Among upcoming events are 3D printing meet-up May 28 and International IoT Get Together June 16. THINGS is also partner to IoE For Real™ 2015 on June 17.
We are all excited about where our co-workingspace for hardware oriented start-ups with international ambitions will take us. So far the response from everywhere has been fantastic even though we’re just in the beginning with a lot still to be put in place. We hope you will enjoy being part of the community and kindly ask you to spread the word: THINGS MATTER!
