I want to begin by thanking all of you who have remained in faithful connection throughout the pandemic season of our ministry together. Due to your faithfulness, La Trinidad UMC has experienced growth in discipleship, worship, and stewardship while making a significant contribution to the efforts of our community to suppress the spread of COVID-19 and encourage vaccination.
In May, La Trinidad UMC reopened to in-person spiritual and fellowship activities. The use of face coverings and practices of enhanced hygiene provide additional protection for children and others who are vulnerable, especially with the spread of more contagious mutant strains of the virus. As a father of an unvaccinated 10 year old son, I am especially grateful to all of you for your patience and kindness in practicing these extra measures even if fully vaccinated.
In-person participation has resumed in spiritual earnest.
Over the last month, worship attendance at in-person services has averaged between 80 and 95 persons per week. Online participation continues at approximately 120 persons (live synchronous participation) for a total worship participation exceeding pre-pandemic worship attendance. In person attendance at the 9 AM Spanish worship service has already returned to and surpassed pre-pandemic levels, thanks in part to the newly organized "Juan Wesley" Spanish language Sunday School class.
Attendance at the church's four adult Sunday School classes has risen to levels not seen in years, with each class serving between 10 and 15 per week. Pastor Raquel and I are especially grateful that the new Sunday Schedule allows us to participate in this teaching ministry. Classes continue for youth and children as well.
If you are not presently in a Sunday School class, I encourage your participation. La Trinidad Sunday School classes function as small group ministry committed to prayer, sharing, and mutual support within a context of continuous discipleship. Space is available to organize additional adult classes.
Several mid-week ministries have also resumed. Academia America offers citizenship courses on Tuesday evenings. The banners guild meets on Monday mornings. The United Methodist Women and Sewing for Preemies are meeting monthly on Saturdays. Music rehearsals continue on Tuesdays at 6:30 P.M.
In other business, the church has paid its 2021 apportionments in full, and the Board of Trustees has been working in earnest, completing the sewer repairs, installing necessary equipment, tending to maintenance details, and organizing to begin the first phase of renovations in the church gymnasium. A gift from the Alvarado family has helped place new video monitors in the sanctuary and laundry equipment in the basement utility room. Another gift from the estate of Henry Ramos will empower renovations and our music ministry. As with every other area of ministry, progress is directly related to God's providence and the strong pattern of generous stewardship throughout our community of faith. Together with God, all things are possible!
