The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has given notice that the rate of COVID infection within the City of San Antonio has risen sharply within the last few weeks, moving their own warning system from a "Safe" rating to a "Severe" rating. The city is experiencing a high rate of positive test results accompanied by a high rate of infection and hospitalization.
According to data provided, the vast majority of new cases are among unvaccinated individuals, but breakthrough infections are being documented, and the CDC has recommended that vaccinated people use masks indoors and reported that vaccinated individuals can also pass the infection.
Please consider the following steps to help keep you and those you love safe:
1. If you have a reliable Internet connection and have returned to on-site worship, consider participating in worship online until local conditions improve (as they have in the past). These conditions can be monitored on the website of San Antonio Metro Health.
Please let your pastors know by email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are making this choice. We also ask that Sunday School teachers who are temporarily suspending in-person class also notify the pastors.
2. Continue practicing the safety protocols with which you are already familiar: distancing and limiting unnecessary social interactions, face coverings, enhanced hygiene, monitoring your own health.
3. Isolate if you suspect you may be infected and test and seek medical attention when appropriate.
4. Communicate your status with trusted individuals in order to help others navigate this crisis and lift you in prayer.
