La Trinidad UMC Coronavirus Response
Update 13 March 2020
Evidence of coronavirus cases strongly indicates that older adults and persons with underlying health conditions are disproportionately vulnerable to the lethal pneumonia and complications of the COVID-19 disease. This disease is thought to be more virulent than influenza and spread by casual social contact with infected persons who may not be demonstrating symptoms.
San Antonio, Texas is currently experiencing cases of COVID-19 outside the quarantine area at Lackland Air Force Base. San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has declared a public health emergency and President Trump has declared a national emergency in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus.
As such, all persons are encouraged to practice social distancing and enhanced hygiene regardless of infection status or level of vulnerability.
Social distancing includes the following:
Remaining at home as much as possible (recommended for the most vulnerable)
Refraining from physical contact when greeting others
Avoiding large crowds or other large gatherings
Isolating yourself for a period of time after travel or other activity where you may have been exposed
Being particularly sensitive to vulnerable persons you may infect
Spreading out when seating in a gathering
Enhanced hygiene includes the following:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick or demonstrating symptoms of illness.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Participating in Worship Online
The La Trinidad UMC church services will be open this Sunday with a few changes to the ritual and program. The breakfast ministry has been temporarily suspended. Participants who come are asked to respect social distancing practices.
Church members and constituents who choose to remain at home may participate in the church worship services by viewing the services on Youtube.com.
Those who intend to view online are asked to email pastor John Feagins at pastorjohn@latrinidadchurch.com to let him know. He will greet all online viewers who register their participation by name this Sunday during the broadcast. Online attendance of those who identify themselves will be counted toward total worship attendance.
Church video content is hosted on a special Youtube Channel named La Trinidad United Methodist Church. A link to each Sunday's service is posted on the church Facebook Page.
