A Word from Our Chair

As summer is winding down, the Olympics have helped bring new members throughout our clubs in Indiana. In fact, we have over 114 new GRIN members since June! Welcome new swimmers to GRIN!!!
 
There is something for everyone this fall!
  • Check out the Swim a TRI! (Entries are due by September 15.)
  • Race into a swim meet! There are several upcoming meets in Central Indiana and would love to see you all enter at least one to test your racing skills!
  • Adult Learn-to-Swim Certification will be in Indy in October. Limited scholarships are available for GRIN members!

News from the GRIN Board 

Bidding is Now Open for the 2017 GRIN State Meet
Greater Indiana Masters Swimming (GRIN) is soliciting bids for the 2017 GRIN State Championship Meet. Even if your program does not have the desire or facility to host the Championship meet, we encourage you to reach out to local age group and high school swim programs, colleges, and YMCA’s to let them know about this opportunity. Interested parties should download the Bid Application Packet for pertinent details and the application form. All bids (and any supporting documentation) must be submitted to the GRIN Chair, Lisa Brown, by October 1. The winning bid will be selected on or about November 1.

The 2016 GRIN State Meet was a tremendous success and we are looking forward to working with next year's host. Please contact either

Great Results from Indiana Swimmers at USMS Nationals!

Nine swimmers headed to the Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, for the 2016 USMS Summer National Championships! Representing Indiana were Jordan Bonfitto (ISWM), Andrew Catlin (INDY), Megan Carlson (INDY), Nicolle Corporon (CON), Cheryl Gettelfinger (INDY), Ellen Gregory (INDY), Christina Lapinskas (ISWM), Marty Mennen (INDY), and Tori Taylor (ISWM). These competitors swam their way to great results, including 32 Top 10 finishes and 6 1st place finishes. Congratulations to our new National Champions: Megan Carlson, INDY (W 30-34: 50 Fly), Christina Lapinskas, ISWM (W 30-34: 800 Free), Marty Mennen, INDY (M 80-84: 50 Back, 100 Back, and 200 Back), and Tori Taylor, ISWM (W 18-24: 100 Free). Check out their results and congratulations to you all!
 

Entry Deadline Approaching for "Swim a Tri"

All entries for the “Swim a Tri” Postal Challenge must be submitted to Karen Gernert by September 15. Did you meet your challenge? Results will be posted on the GRIN website after the entry deadline passes. Congratulations to all who participated!
 

Upcoming Events

USMS Speedo 5K & 10K ePostal National Championship
Want to compare your distance swimming with the rest of the country? Swim 5,000 meters and/or 10,000 meters in its entirety in any 50-meter pool before September 15. Some people swim the Speedo 5K & 10K ePostal events for competition; others for fitness. Complete your swim and enter your results online.

GRIN's 2016 "Swim a Tri" Postal Challenge

Our “Swim a Tri” Postal Challenge is a chance for swimmers from all over the state to challenge themselves to “Swim a Tri” – with no biking or running required and equipment allowed! To receive your Swim Log, send your entry form to Karen Gernert. Completed logs must be received by September 15. Will you try to “Swim a Tri”?

1st Annual Chris Clarke Invitational
On June 22, 2014, the swimming community mourned the loss of a great friend and competitor, Chris Clarke. Anyone who knew Chris felt his enthusiasm for life and his passion for swimming. Now, with the blessing of his family, we continue to celebrate his life and enthusiasm for our sport by establishing the 1st Annual Chris Clarke Invitational. This SCM event will take place on Saturday, October 1 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. Online registration is now open.

Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor Certification
An Adult Learn-to-Swim Certification class is taking place at Zionsville Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 8. Taught by GRIN Chair Lisa Brown, this is a great opportunity for those who teach or desire to teach adults to swim. The class is limited to 25 participants and limited scholarships are available for GRIN members, so register today!

2016 Lake Central Masters Pumpkin Plunge
The 2016 Lake Central Masters Pumpkin Plunge will take place on Sunday, October 9 at the Lake Central Aquatic Center in St. John. This short course yards meet is a great Fall meet. Registration is now open and mailed entries must be received by October 7, so get this meet on your calendar now. 

6th Annual UINDY Masters Invitational
The 6th Annual University of Indianapolis Masters Meet will be contested on Saturday, October 15. This short course meters meet is a great local competition not to be missed. Registration is now open, so make sure this great race gets onto your calendar and we'll see you at U Indy!

Terre Haute Torpedoes Halloween Splash
Taking place at the VCSC Aquatic Center in Terre Haute from October 21 - 23, this dual-sanctioned meet is a great opportunity to test your racing mettle against the younger set. Masters swimmers swimming distance events will compete on Friday night. For the remainder of the weekend, Masters swimmers will compete in the OPEN category. Online registration for the THT Halloween Splash opens on Monday, September 19. 

5th Annual Munster Masters Fall Frenzy
Featuring both the 400 IM and the 1650 Free, the 5th Annual Munster Masters Fall Frenzy is an event not to be missed. The meet will take place on Saturday, November 12, at the Munster High School Aquatic Center. Warm-ups get underway at 7:30a; the meet begins at 9:10a. Please note that all times are CENTRAL TIME ZONE and plan accordingly. As an added bonus, there will be ATHLETE hospitality at this meet. Great food and fast water. What could be better?
