GRIN News and Notes

Spring and summer are busy times for GRIN - with new Board members beginning their service, a great State meet just concluded, and annual award winners revealed.  And, with summer just around the corner, there are great racing opportunities coming - both in the pool and the open water. Check out all that's happening....

Thank You Outgoing Board Members
Thank you to Jim Barber, Dick Sidner, Randy Crutchfield, and Chris Sikich for all of your past work on the GRIN Board serving the Indiana Masters swimming community. Your contributions to our sport are greatly appreciated and you will be missed.

Welcome New Board Members
Please welcome our incoming GRIN Board Members who are beginning their 2-year terms of service. Lisa Brown is our new Chair, Meg Carlson is the Co-Chair, Karen Gernert is the Secretary, and Sue Pollard is the Treasurer. Thank you for your willingness to serve. We are looking forward to the next two years.

GRIN Board Seeks Sanctions Chair
With Lisa Brown moving into the role of Board Chair, there is an opening for a Sanctions Chair. If you are interested in serving in this role or for additional information, please contact Lisa.



Congratulations State Competitors!
Congratulations to all of those who that competed at the 2015 GRIN State Meet. Throughout the weekend, GRIN members reconnected with old friends, cheered on teammates, and swam exceptionally well as many personal best times were posted - both by brand new competitors and seasoned veterans. Check out the full GRIN State Meet results and congratulations to Indy Aquatic Masters who were crowned the 2015 State Champions.

Congratulations to our Award Winners!
At the GRIN State Meet, our annual award winners were revealed. The Irv Merritt Award is given to the Masters swimmer who best exemplifies the standards and values of Irv Merritt. This year's Irv Merritt winners are Chris Sikich from the Noblesville Adult Swim Team and Matt Lee from Munster Masters. This year's Strong Swimmer award winner is Patti Davies from Lawrence Masters Swimming. The Strong Swimmer Award is given each year to the swimmer who scores the most points in the long distance and difficult events that Doug Strong enjoyed.


Upcoming Events

Open Water Swim Clinic
On Sunday, June 7, an open water swim clinic geared towards beginners and experienced swimmers alike will be held at Forest Park Aquatic Center. Sponsored by the Noblesville Adult Swim Team and led by Dick Sidner, the clinic will highlight entries and exits, stroke analysis, navigating buoys, and sighting. Check out their website for additional information and to register online.
2nd Annual Indy Open Water Challenge
Taking place at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on Saturday, June 13, 2015, the 2nd Annual Indy Open Water Challenge is an event not to miss. Hosted by Indy Aquatic Masters, the 2nd Annual Indy Open Water Challenge features both a 1-Mile and 2-Mile races and is a great opportunity to get your racing legs wet. Registrations received before May 21 are just $50; $65 thereafter. There will be NO race day registration, so sign up online today!

USMS 15K Open Water National Championship
Hosted by the Noblesville Adult Swim Team, this year's USMS 15K Open Water National Championship will take place on Saturday, June 20, at Morse Reservoir. The 15K course consists of three counterclockwise 5K loops in this residential reservoir. Registration for the 15K is closed, but registration for the 15K Relay and 5K Solo open water races are still open. Check out additional event details and get registered for the 15K Relay Open Water National Championship or 5K Solo (Non-Championship) Open Water Swim today!

Sugar Creek Swim Club Solstice Splash
Taking place at the Crawfordsville Aquatic Center, this dual-sanctioned LCM meet is a great opportunity to test your racing mettle against the younger set. In addition to the "typical" events, this meet also features the 1500 Free (limited to the top 30 swimmers). Masters swimmers will compete on Saturday and Sunday mornings (warm-ups at 7:30a; meet starting at 8:30a). Check out additional meet information and entry forms. Entries must be received by Friday, 6/05.
