A Word from Our Chair

Happy New Year! Dive in to a pool near you!

With the New Year comes new swimmers to the pool. What an exciting opportunity to welcome new swimmers to the sport we love. Yes, you may have to share with someone slower, you may have to learn new names, you may even have to swim in the faster lane, but what a great way to open the sport to new swimmers and introduce someone to a healthier lifestyle! Welcome new Greater Indiana Masters Swimmers! We are so glad you are joining the team.

Thank you to our 2016 GRIN Swimmers!  Welcome back and keep up the great swimming. 2017 brings many opportunities to challenge yourself.  We have exciting postal pentathlon swims for our Indiana swimmers, US Masters National Postal One Hour Championship, local swim meets, and our GRIN State Championship Meet in Munster on April 8-9!

Don't forget about the great Adult Learn-to-Swim and Swimming Saves Lives programs around the state.  These are great programs to help our adult neighbors learn to be safe in the water!

Have a wonderful new year of swimming and we will see you in the pool!

Swimmingly,
Lisa L. Brown

A Word from our Fitness Chair
It's January. The holidays are behind us and it is time to get back to a healthy lifestyle. Now is the time to put into play the steps needed to keep our goals for 2017 on track. Goals are not something we achieve on one particular day, but in smaller steps taken along the way that lead up to the larger goal. If you are trying lose weight, maybe start by cutting out sugared drinks. Then, after a couple of weeks, eat smaller portions, and so on. If you have a fitness goal, maybe a good place to start is by using the stairs instead of the elevator or taking an hour-long walk through your neighborhood every night. This will help you both attain your goal and de-stress from the day's activities.

Make 2017 the year you get out of your comfort zone. Compete in your first swim meet, run a 5K, or complete a Sprint Tri. The list of options is endless. Just don't get discouraged along the way. Tell a friend and keep each other accountabl
e!  Please share your goals with me (rongatte@hotmail.com) and I will help keep you on track.
