PHOTO L.A.
Virtual Collect + Connect 2020
June 27- June 28
photola.com
Join us online June 27– 28 for Photo L.A.’s first-ever virtual photo fair. Photo L.A. has reimagined the traditional fair space to digitally present over 70 exhibitors via interactive, 3D booths accessed via the Whova app and housed on the photo L.A. website. To preview the fair, click here.
The gallery's virtual booth at Photo L.A. will feature a selection of contemporary photographic works by artists Devan Shimoyama and Esmaa Mohamoud, as well as mixed media works by Marielle Plaisir. Shimoyama’s practice examines Black queerness and sexuality, themes shared by the work of Mohamoud, whose included works (from her 2019 “One of the Boys” series), studies Black masculinity in athletics. Utilizing multimedia techniques including collage, Plaisir imagines in her work a reality free of racial hierarchy, layering imagery of nature, beauty, and Black pleasure.
A portion of the sales from Photo L.A. will be donated to an organization that supports the Black community, chosen collaboratively by staff and our artists.
