Well I promised you some scraps, so this week we have a round-up of scrappy block tutorials. Hope they give you an idea of how to tackle those scraps of yours! There's also some modern hexies, a currently trending technique. Have you tried them yet? And while I always try to link to a contributor's blog if they have one, I'm also linking to their Instagram account, cuz if you're like me, that's a good place to be!

Scraps are always a relevant topic. Svetlana/ s.o.t.a.khandmade got me going on quilt as you go, first with her tutorial, and then with her qayg pouches. Yup, I whipped up 2 pronto to give as gifts. [sotakhandmade]

In her tutorial for scrappy improv blocks, Kelly/My Quilt Infatuation gives a great tip - as you are creating your improv blocks, make them bigger than you need! That way you'll have pieced strips to begin or add to other blocks. [myquiltinfatuation]

A more planned approach is Katie/Sew Katie Did's magic number piecing. In this method, you begin with fixed square sizes (Katie uses 2.5", 4.5", and 6.5") which nest together to make the finished block. [sewkatiedid]

New to me are Amanda Jean/crazy mom quilts' scrappy triangles. Very small scraps are the best for these blocks.

Keep an eye on crazy mom quilts, as Amanda Jean is planning a scrap vortex quilt along to be announced this month!

Lastly, I came across a "sew with scraps" Pinterest board that has lots of small-project ideas. In fact, search sewing with scraps, and you'll soon be overwhelmed!

One of the trending techniques that is stunning every time I see it is those Modern Hexies. Nicole/Modern Handcraft started it all with her tutorial, and though folks may do minor construction tweaks due to personal preference, they all point back to Nicole. Those Modern Hexies really back a punch. [modernhandcraft]

What? No Basting? These No-Sew Modern Hexies by Kelsey/Lovely and Enough are a terrific option if you're not into hand-sewing. [lovelyandenough]

Now here's a few more modern hexie projects . . .

First, a darling fabric card from Katherina/stitchydoo, that she made while participating in a card exchange! [stitchydoo]

Sarah/[sarahoviatt] made a striking mini quilt for a swap, including some fussy-cut hexies. Lucky partner!

Kat/Kat's Craft constructs her hexies by using HeatnBond lite instead of fabric glue to baste the pieces. Isn't it great to have options? [katgraycraft]

That's a wrap! Hope you get a chance to attack those scraps or try a new technique soon!

P.S. I shared a cross quilt on the blog the other day and was asked for a block tutorial. Call them wonky, improv, or liberated, these crosses are easy and fun to make. Here's a tutorial for a basic block by Carla/Lollyquiltz, and Charlotte/Lawson and Lotti makes her crosses scrappy!
