WHAT'S UP

As often happens, the Round-Up for this issue was influenced by what was going on in my studio - the creation of a stitch-and-flip quilt, Refiner's Fire.
In fact, it's been a good few weeks for quilt finishes. If you missed them, here are links to posts about Think Like an Artist and Uncommon Forest.

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

It was from Katie/sew katie did that I first discovered the "stitch-and-flip" block, in a class based on her book, Quilting Modern. As you'll see, there are so many ways to orient these blocks, including Katie's Seattle Lone Star. [sewkatiedid]

Katie reminded me that stitch-and-flip blocks can also be used to create the quilt's background, as she did with Big Tossed Hearts.
Renae/Creative Chick used a color gradient to create her Color Crush.
(54" x 73")
In her Controlled Chaos, Elizabeth/don't call me betsy incorporated some solid and split squares scattered amongst her stitch-and-flip blocks. [dontcallmebetsy]
(20" square)
Sea Glass on Sand by Felicity/
Felicity Quilts used contrasting backgrounds to create alot of interest. [felicityquilts]
(32" square)
How striking is Maritza Soto's The Flying Farfalle in black and white!?

And here's my own Radiancy, inspired by Supernova a la Quilting Modern.

TUTORIALS & SUCH

Nicole/Mama Love QuiltsModern Half-Square Triangle Quilt Block Tutorial on Spoonflower uses the stitch and flip technique, if you'd like to see how it's done.

And Katie/sewkatiedid expands the technique by adding stitch and flip triangles to half square triangles.

OFF TOPIC

It was Lizzy House who clued me in, but Jen Hewitt is actually presenting 52 Weeks of Printmakers. And Svetlana/s.o.t.a.k handmade posted her method for block printed note cards. All so impressive.

Have you considered making your own quilt labels? Linda/Flourishing Palms posted her Quilt Label Tutorial showing how she prints on inkjet printable fabric called Printed Treasures. Then Paige/Quilted Blooms shared her Handwritten Quilt Labels Tutorial and How to Reverse Text in Word using freezer paper sheets.

P.S. I've been thinking I'd like to host another quilt-along similar to the Crosscut Quilt-Along held on Instagram last summer. Were you able to join in? Any ideas on what you'd like to be a part of? I'm thinking of maybe another simple improv project. If you have some ideas, let me know!
