WHAT'S UP

Just one big-ole quilt finish to share! Scrap-ish Plaid-ish is my version of the Plaid-ish Scrap Quilt created by Erica/
@kitchentablequilting It's a free tutorial that uses several different scrap sizes, which makes it a great one for working through that scrap basket. And at 64" x 82", it uses plenty! Check out the #plaidishquilt hashtag
on Instagram; I daresay you might find yourself making one for yourself soon!

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

I thought Katy/The Littlest Thistle was SO clever to come up with her own design for a travel pillow. She made the 'bag' with home decor fabric, and I can't image anyone who wouldn't enjoy traveling with it.
[the_littlest_thistle)
Kate/[whatatangle]'s bear paw pincushion is just the cutest! Believe it or not, that center square is just 1/4" finished!
Spliced, created by Michelle/
Factotum of Arts, was actually inspired by hotel carpeting. I definitely think Michelle took it up a notch! Look close and just maybe you can see the broken Half-Square Triangles that are the basis for her reinvented design. [ml_wilkie]
I've been watching Cheryl Arkison week by week as she's created new two-color blocks for her Solid Triangle Play quilt top. Working with loose guidelines, the top priority was the element of play. I really love that. [cheryl_arkison]
Read about the meaning Claire/Peony and Fern's has imbedded into her improv wall hanging Party of Four: "In the spirit of the name, the backing of the quilt features a section with four strips, each with four colors. Each strip is different but all share the same color palette — my artistic attempt at representing our blended family." Beautiful. [clairevogeley]
Mary/Quilting is in my Blood created a stunner with her Tranquility Quilt, for which she drafted paper-pieced templates to make the half-rectangle blocks. [mringer58]

TUTORIALS & SUCH

ONE: When I saw how much Susan/@susansantistean was enjoying making her beautiful Improv Layered Circles, I thought you might enjoy trying them too. Here's a link to the tutorial. Be sure to keep an eye on what Susan is doing with hers.... rumor is she's going to cut.them.up!
TWO: Lightbulb! I discovered there's another way to make HSTs!  If you haven't heard of Accordion Sewn scrappy HSTs, check out the (one, two, and three) videos by Eva Paige Quilts! Mind-blowing!

OFF TOPIC

Just want to make sure you heard - Cheri/@tinkerellen is hosting another #teenytinypinnieparade! Running September 15 - October 6, this year there is one teeny tiny rule.... Pinnies must be around 3” or smaller to be considered teeny! Oh wow. But just look - Angele/
@fabricandink has already started with her absolutely darling mini snow-capped mountain. Such cuteness!

GOTTA LOVE IT!

I could not have been more thrilled to see that Marla/penny lane quilts had won First Place in the modern category at the American Quilting Society's Fall Paducah show with her "At the Junction". (This was after winning the same honor at the AQS Grand Rapids show in August!) As Marla tells about the win in Paducah, "This contest has a unique feature. It takes the first place quilts from each of the fifteen categories and lets the public choose the top seven awards, including the $20,000 Best of Show. There was only a 24 hour voting period. You can imagine the excitement when the results were posted and I learned my quilt had placed “4th Overall” and won a major award." Pretty cool! Big congrats to Marla!

P.S. Are you joining in #partyinthequiltback hosted by [3rdstoryworkshop]? Post pics of your favourite #quiltbacks from September 8-22 for a chance to win a daily prize.
