Wuthering Heights

by Emily Bronte
Illustrations by Marjolean Bastin

"...chance to rediscover classic literature in collectible, luxuriously illustrated volumes... the artwork of Marjolein Bastin graces the pages of a timeless classic...  Beyond bringing these stories to life, Bastin’s series adds elaborately designed ephemera, such as four-color maps, letters, family trees, and sheet music."

Great Lives Worth Reliving

(Simon & Schuster)

--Booklist
New Fiction
Crossings

(St. Martin's Griffin)
by Alex Landragin
paperback
"This delightful puzzle box of a novel is full of clever structural tricks that echo works by Nabokov and Cortazar, but... goes beyond postmodern gamesmanship and finds real heart and soul in its compelling characters and old-fashioned storytelling ethos... a deeply satisfying read!"
―Dan Chaon,
author of Ill Will
New Picture Book
Beatrice Bly’s Rules for Spies: The Missing Hamster
(Pixel+Ink)
written by Sue Fliess
illustrated by
Beth Mills

hardcover
"It’s a plot straight out of the school comedy files... Mills’s (Ella McKeen, Kickball Queen) animation-styled illustrations... pull in readers with their comic drama and jaunty spoofiness."
Publishers Weekly
New Nonfiction
Nerve: Adventures in the Science
of Fear

(Experiment)
by Eva Holland
paperback
“...what happens when human beings lose their nerve... employs relatable life experiences to explore multiple facets of fear... Readers share in the journey as Holland confronts her fears and comes to successfully manage them... This might encourage readers to identify, examine, and tackle fears of their own.”

New Gothic
Plain Bad Heroines
(William Morrow)
by Emily M. Danforth
paperback
"...a horror novel, a proper one: a big fat doorstep of super-queer terror that never runs out of ways to keep you deliciously disturbed... Danforth braids the layers of narrative together with expertise. She’s clearly a horror buff... Another writer might have let the metatext choke the dread, but Danforth uses it to thrillingly corrode the reader’s own sense of reality... Her novel is beguilingly clever, very sexy and seriously frightening.”
-- Guardian (UK)
Adapted Classic
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
(White Star Kids)
by Jules Verne
illustrated by Francesca Rossi

hardcover
"The splendid illustrations... capturing vividly and realistically the atmosphere of the stories, will carry the children into the heart of the adventure. Almost as if they could browse the pages of the Nautilus logbook, they will be enthralled by the illustrations and sketches interspersing the narrative..."

historical novels,

The Postmistress of Paris

by Meg Waite Clayton,
due out November 30th.

“The work of an unsung heroine rises from the pages of The Postmistress of Paris. Meg Waite Clayton draws a vivid contrast between the beauty of art and the brutality of war, the power of humanity and the human cost of cruelty, greed, and prejudice. With a heart-stopping flight across war-torn Europe, this is a story readers of historical fiction and strong female characters will devour.”
