Season 2017

As we officially say goodbye to the 2017 season, I would firstly like to congratulate our victorious year 12 and year 8 Green teams on winning their respective Grand Finals.

A big thanks must go out to all of our Coaches, Managers, Committee members and volunteers who help out around the Club each and every week. Speaking of volunteers, we are still seeking a number of people at the Club to step into Committee roles for 2018. So if you have been thinking about volunteering, now is the time to get in touch with me at president@scarbjfc.com (I promise, it isn't that scary and you get the chance to work with a fun, good humored, awesome President).

On behalf of the Committee we would like to say thank you and farewell to Sharyn Powell and Craig Greaves who will be stepping down from their roles on the Committee to follow their son's into the world on Colts football.

For anyone interested in how the Club is run, the AGM is being held at the Millington Club Rooms on Tuesday 24 October at 7pm.

I look forward to seeing everyone back at the Club ready and raring to go for a great 2018 season!

Julie Johnson
SJFC President

YR12 Win 2017 Premiership

Scarborough 6.6 (42) v Ocean Ridge 6.3 (39)

Scarborough were led onto Claremont Oval for the Grand Final by Nathan Biddle playing his 150th game and Captain Jack Dingle. Scarborough got away to a great start with strong defence from Isaac Franklin and 2 goals to Cameron Stedman. Scarborough had a 3 goal lead at quarter time.

Ocean Ridge had the better of the second quarter, kicking 3 goals to 1 goal. Both teams defended really well in the third quarter with Ocean Ridge hitting the front for the first time. Then Lewis Offenburgh found a way to kick his second goal of the game to put Scarborough 2 points up at three quarter time.

In the final quarter Scarborough had a lot of the ball inside 50 for the first five minutes only to score 2 points. Ocean Ridge then had most of the play for the following 15 minutes but Scarborough kept them goalless by digging deep with some great smothers, hard tackles and big spoils from the team and hard running from this year’s league Best & Fairest winner Josh Robbins and previous winner Zane Shellabear Healy. As the siren sounded, the competition’s leading goal kicker, James Main took a mark to make it back to back Premierships for the team.

Congratulations to all of the players as well as Coaches Brett Dingle & Craig Greaves and Manager Sharyn Powell.

YR8 Green Win 2017 Premiership

Scarborough 4.6 (30) v Marist Black 3.3 (21)

In the first quarter we lost our ruckman Adam Farabegoli with a broken collar bone which threw the game plan in a spin. Despite this setback we started well in a tough first half thanks to the makeshift ruckmen who battled hard to give our mids first possession. Our tackling was exceptional and our run and carry was on. Josh Sukuroski stood tall in defence and repelled the ball into our favour all day.

At half time Scarborough were leading 2.5 (17) – 0.3 (3).

In the third quarter Marist came out firing with 3 unanswered goals which had their supporters in raptures. The Scarborough coaches knew they needed to make some changes in the last quarter to support the style of game we had played all season to get us to this position.

Jacob Hristianopoulos was thrown into the ruck, Aiden Ismail was asked to match up on Marist’s best and the switch of Gus Willis to the opposite forward flank proved the match winning moves. Jacob dominated the ruck and fed our midfield at every cost. Aiden shut down their best player to zero possessions and Gus proved the vital target that got the required scores on the board.

Captain Jake Roberts led from the front all day and set the tone from the outset. The team never gave up and showed their true class when the pressure was applied. Everyone played a vital role and had a terrific game – well done!

A great game to watch, played with great sportsmanship. A fantastic end to a undefeated season – well done to coaches Blake, Andrew & Tony and Team Manager Mandy.
