Ahoy from the Desk of your Commodore.

Well we are into a New Year, 2023, with all new possibilities and adventures that it brings.  I, for one am looking forward to this new year!  SIBC has already started strong in 2023.

We just completed a very successful membership drive on January 6th.  Your club is well positioned for 2023.  We have a membership base of 45 households accounting for 85 members.  We have the resources on hand to make 2023 a memorable year for SIBC and our Social Committee has put together an exciting schedule of events through July 2023.  Please see the Upcoming SIBC Events section.

On January 13th you, our membership, selected a new slate of officers and directors to navigate SIBC through 2023.  Here are the results of that Election:

Commodore: Hugh Upton - 39 Votes
Vice Commodore: Bill Doggett - 39 Votes
Secretary: Rick Bayard - 39 Votes
Treasurer: Michael Blumenthal - 39 Votes
Directors At Large:
  Steve Hernandez - 25 Votes
  Carl Ridgeway - 30 Votes
  Michael Rodel - 26 Votes

Runner Up: George Orient - 22 Votes

Congratulations to this years SIBC Officers and Directors.  This is the first time in several years that all SIBC Officer and Director positions have been filled.  I am excited to work with these very qualified individuals to make SIBC even better in 2023 than it is and to exceed our memberships expectations for the club.

On January 20th, SIBC hosted a Meet and Greet Happy Hour at my home to meet new 2023 members and to greet the 2023 SIBC Officers and Directors.  Wine, beer, soda and hors d'oeuvres were available to our members and 2023 name tags were distributed  The event was a great success.  We had over 40 members attend and we even had several new guest in attendance who are interested in the club.  Since the Meet and Greet, several of these guests have joined SIBC.

Tour of The Song of the Whale

On January 27th several SIBC members had a chance to toured the Research Vessel "Song of the Whale" which proved to be a very informative tour.  Our tour guide was a Marine Biologist named Ellie Haywood who is one of the ships scientist on this tour  The Song of the Whale was docked at at Rousakis Plaza on River Street.  The research vessel sailed from the U.K. to Fernandina Island in Florida, and will follow the migration of the North Atlantic Right Whale from their calving grounds off the coasts of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina up to Canada.  The vessel was commissioned in 2004 to provide an offshore platform to enhance monitoring and research efforts of marine mammals, particularly whales. The Song of the Whale is a 21-meter sailing vessel, purposely built to be the quietest research vessel in the world.  Following the tour of the Song of the Whale, our group had great lunch at Tubby's Seafood restaurant on River Street.
