Peet's Coffee to donate to Friends
The downtown Santa Cruz Peet's Coffee will be collecting donations for Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks from Dec. 17-24, and will make a matching grant.

Staff at Peet's Coffee, 1409 Pacific Ave., selected Friends to be the nonprofit recipient of their Holiday Donations Program this year. The store will collect donations for Friends, then match the gift up to $750.

Started in 1986, the annual Holiday Donations Program encourages customers, employees, friends and family to come together to support a local nonprofit during the holiday season, and Friends is thankful to benefit from this generosity.

Start 2016 off right with a First Day Hike at a local State Park
On January 1, 2016, California State Parks invites you to start the New Year with a hike as part of the annual First Day Hikes initiative across America.

First Day Hikes originated over 20 years ago and was launched to promote both healthy lifestyles and year round recreation at state parks across the nation. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family!

There will be three guided hikes each in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and Big Basin Redwoods State Park, as well as two at Wilder Ranch State Park, on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. Several state parks in San Mateo County also will host First Day Hikes, including Gray Whale Cove State Beach/McNee Ranch State Park, Burleigh H. Murray Ranch State Park, Pescadero State Beach and Año Nuevo State Park.

The guided hikes are free. Parking at most state parks and beaches is $10 and supports the park. Find specific times and hike details on our website.
