Do you love going to the park or the beach? Who doesn’t enjoy listening to the surf or moving under a beautiful canopy of redwood trees?
You most likely realize that our state parks and beaches are healing places of beauty, offering opportunities for exercise, recreation and learning. Parks give us a chance to connect with family and friends, building memories we hold dear throughout our lives.
What you may not know is Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks serves as the nonprofit partner with California State Parks to support all state parks and beaches in Santa Cruz County and coastal San Mateo County. We enhance visitors' park experiences by supporting important projects and programs. For example, this year Friends funded:
Monarch butterfly grove habitat restoration
State Parks interpretative staff at 17 state parks and beaches
Educational field trips to state parks for low-income school children
Guided Overnight Backpacking Tour (partners: the Sempervirens Fund and Portola & Castle Rock Foundation)
A summer pilot program for Santa Cruz’s Beach Flats neighborhood school students to visit three local state parks
Continued restoration of the historic Castro Adobe
