April Gardening Work Day @ To Be Announced

April 18th 1st  @  MCFA Earth Day Event

May 1 @ 7pm May Day Bonfire
Outdoor socially distanced bonfire at 850 Page Street.   Bring your own beverage and a camping chair if you have one.

The first announcement we would like to make is that ICMA has a Discord server now. We will still be updating the Samepage  but people requested the Discord, so you can join that here, if that's a better way for you to communicate.  (This link will expire in 7 days).

Other than that spring is here and those of us who are interested in food security are all talking gardening. Stephany has seeds started from the Herbalists Without Borders seed grant and will be passing some of those along to the CCAN community gardeners. We have gardening space that a collective member has offered up for our use.  We will be sending an email out when the first work day is scheduled. We will be offering a skillshare at some point, but in the meantime there are some handouts about starting seeds and taking care of seedlings, in the gardening channel on the Discord.

Rather than hosting our own Earth Day event ICMA will be supporting Millennials for Climate Action event on April 18th. They are going to be having a bake sale fundraiser, so if you like to bake, please join the MCFA Discord  or for more info you can email millennialsforclimateactionia@gmail.com.

We will be hosting our first in person gathering since the bonfire we had last fall.  It will be a socially distanced bonfire on the evening of May 1st. Some of us will be fully vaccinated by then but we will still be asking people to mask up to protect those who aren't.

As always keep an eye on our Direct Support page and our Facebook page.  If someone  local needs financial support we are going to put their information out there so people can send money directly to them, because we believe in self-determination.

Warmly,

Stephany
Project Updates

Food Projects
You can read more about the food projects  on the website.  Cooks and bakers who want to direct their time to these projects are always appreciated.   If you don't have time but feel moved to support the cooks we can always use Aldi cards or you could  something off our wishlist.  It is always tweaked to indicate what we need the most, and it's set up to  go straight to 850 Page Street.

Medic Project
The medic project will be gearing up to finish some trainings now that people are getting vaccinated.  That probably won't happen until May. ICMA medics have plenty of supplies and vaccinated medics who are willing to show up to support direct actions.  Contact medics@iowacitymutualaid.com to line that up.

Community Sewing Projects
We have added several patterns to the "People who Sew" project page in the group so if that's in your skillset we welcome handmade items and probably can scare up supplies for you as well.

Snow Removal  Project

One of our members took the initiative to set up a snow removal project to help neighbors during recent storms.  To sign up for help or to get help go to this link.  Thanks so much to Sarah for working so hard to get this organized.
