Annual Celebration Guest Speaker
We are honored to welcome Women's Fund member, Emily Smith, as our keynote speaker at the Annual Celebration.

Like many residents living here today, Emily relocated to El Dorado County from the Bay Area just 12 years ago.  She was born in Berkeley, grew up in Marin County, and earned her pharmacy doctorate from UCSF in 1995.  Emily’s passion for the business of healthcare began while she was in pharmacy school, leading her to work with numerous professional mentors to create her own residency program in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research, the first of its kind in California.  Given her specialized training on the impact of bringing new drugs to market, she was recruited immediately into the pharmaceutical industry where she has enjoyed a career in Medical Affairs for nineteen years.

Emily met her husband Kyle Smith in Cameron Park in 2004.  They married in 2005, and that same year, Emily joined the El Dorado Arts Council’s Board of Directors.  She served in leadership roles as Vice President, President, and Past President during her nine years on the Board, while traveling extensively on business for her employer, AstraZeneca.  In 2006, Kyle and Emily welcomed the birth of their daughter, Sydney, and in 2009, they flew to Texas to adopt their newborn son, Colby.

Emily joined the Women’s Fund in October 2010 while attending her first Annual Celebration event, delighted to discover so many friends from the Arts Council who were already members. She has always felt strongly that her life is most stable when she invests time in the “triad” of family, work, and community.  Emily deeply appreciates the connection with like-minded women, the insights to needs in our county, and the opportunity to make a difference that the Women’s Fund offers.

Did you know...
In 2013, Assistance League of Sierra Foothills (ALSF) received a $13,000 WFED grant to assist in the funding of their program, “Operation School Bell.” This program provides underprivileged children, aged 5-17, with the opportunity to purchase school clothes. Grant funding from WFED provided 130 disadvantage students with new school clothes.
Interested in getting more involved with WFED? We are currently seeking members interested in joining a committee. Please email Robyn Parker for additional details, robynsnest4907@gmail.com.
