WORKFORCE LEAD UPDATE

The Goodhue County Collaborative Learn & Earn program partnered with the city of Red Wing's Public Works Department and five employer partners to deliver 2 onsite tours of their facilities.

Students learned a lot.  They were amazed at the range of skills, occupations and professional opportunities offered by the City and our companies.  After a long day of touring on April 25th and May 10th, they were beaming with all of the possibilities presented by the world class operations here.  They all expressed pride in our companies and admiration for our Public Works and Manufacturing workforce.

Our May 10th itinerary began at S. B. Foot Tanning Co., then Red Wing Shoe accompanied by Helena Kilbride; 3M Fall Protection and lunch; then off to Xcel Steam Plant greeted by Ross Lexvold and plant engineer Kelsey Koster; then a wrap with the team at USG, met by Timothy Phillips, Technical Manager and Mike Hill, Plant Manager.

For both tours, RWI Team Burke Murphy and Randii Waddell accompanied the students, and included in this opportunity were our partners, Brian Cashman of GCED, Grady Gaston, Student Recruiter, MN State College Southeast, and Mich Wendland, RW School District.

Thank you to everyone who made these great experiences possible, including our bus drivers Jim and Steve!

MAKERSPACE RW TRANSITION

Our current community Makerspace will be temporarily closing this month.  We are actively pursuing a new location and working with stakeholders to design a multi-functional space for makers, businesses, entrepreneurs, hobbyists and artists to come together and create.
We are grateful for our partners at Minnesota State College Southeast for hosting this exciting first chapter and to our Lab Managers, volunteers, members and supporters.
Stay tuned in the coming months for more information.

Questions and/or comments can be emailed to Shannan.

We believe where innovation becomes reality is located in the heart of rural communities, just like Red Wing.

Founded by the community of Red Wing in 2013, with the support of local foundations and the City of Red Wing; our organization works to fuel economic development by working with key sectors of the community to spur innovation by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses, and students.

By bringing together like-minded entrepreneurs, investors and advisors, Red Wing Ignite creates a unique ecosystem for the Red Wing community to share ideas, resources and expertise.

This, in turn, promotes local and regional economic development through ideation, creation and expansion.
