Representing the local business community since 1986.
A word from our President
What an eventful month we have had with small business month.
I was delighted to introduce to the members firstly Lisa Bathersby from MixFM Radio Station who spoke to us about “Give me 5 for Kids” and the fact as a business community we can make a joint offer to donate. If you would be interested in joining other businesses with a collective pledge, please email me and I will explain in detail what we are going to do. This is a great way to get Maleny on the Sunshine Coast Map as the radio station will spend a morning in Maleny promoting our town if our pledge is successful, if not it is free advertising.
Jodie Nolan Qld Country Bank spoke about the banks focus on the community and business. Did you know that they offer a “Smart Budget” account? Well worth dropping into the bank to gain further information. Qld Country Bank will also be one of the major Sponsors of this Chamber alongside Maleny Supa IGA.
Our next speaker for the morning was Michael O’Brien from CCIQ who spoke about HR issues and work health and safety. Did you know that if your work is predominately working from home then you need to have an agreement laid out in regards to lunch hours and what is considered “work time” and also have your office checked to be ergonomically safe.
Following on from the breakfast was a mini-workshop, which was dismally attended. I would really appreciate your feedback in relation to what this business community wants from this chamber as it takes hours to organise these events.
Our major event for the year will be on Thursday 29th July 2021 at 6.00 pm at Tranquil Park. Tranquil Park has kindly offered sponsorship of the event alongside Maleny Supa IGA. Our Keynote Speaker will be Eric Bailey, an ex-Professional American Basketball Player that brings to the table an exciting look at the next 6 months with humour. It will be a fun night, not to be missed. As it is cold, we have selected a Christmas theme and the food of course will be in the Christmas tradition including mulled wine. We want you all to come and please bring a friend. Tickets will be available on our website. Tickets will go on our website soon and will be $45 Member $65 nonmember
Events for the rest of the year are:- Thursday 29th July 2021, 5.30 pm keynote speaker Eric Bailey. Eric Bailey is a former basketball player with the Hobart Devils, Melbourne Tigers and Gold Coast Rollers in the National Basketball League. Tickets will go on our website soon and will be $45 Member $65 nonmember September -we will join Montville Chamber (date to be advised). A large focus of Give Me 5 over the years has been on supporting adolescents relying on hospital services, and now, with mental health issues escalating since the pandemic Wishlist’s focus on supporting young adults will continue to grow.
Through the proceeds of Mix FM’s Give Me 5 Wishlist will also continue to fund medical equipment, staff education and local research projects aimed at supporting patients of areas including the Children's Ward and Emergency Departments across our region.
