Maleny Commerce Newsletter
From the President Happy New Year and wishing you all a healthy and prosperous 2017 for yourself, family, friends, business and communities.
Our first event for this year is the Maleny Commerce AGM at the House of Laurels on the 14th of February. Far from the usual dry, procedurally heavy organisational AGM, the formalities are over relatively quickly and we can all get back to the business of networking with the Maleny and wider business communities.
Committee nominations thus far are indicating continuity with existing positions. Spencer - Shaw President, Jennepher Bucher - Treasurer, Karen Shaw - Secretary, Deborah Hammond - Committee Member, Lea Parkes - Committee Member. Mark Burgunder is retiring as Vice-President and Nicole Hilton is nominated for Vice-President, Alan Marchant is also nominated as Committee Member. Thank you Mark for your contributions to our community through Maleny Commerce over many years, you will be missed. I enjoy immensely working with such a dedicated and professional group of people to represent and promote the business interests of our community.

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Poetry Trail project is a collaboration by Sunshine Coast poets (Judith Bandidt, Lyn Browne, Deanne Lister) and sculptural artists (Barry Smith, Wayne Markwort, Wayne Smith), supported by Art4Place, Hinterland Business Centre, local communities and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
In 2017 the final stage of this three-year project to establish a poetry trail in the Sunshine Coast hinterland gets under way, following successful completion of Stage I (Concept Development) and Stage II (Design), with approval from SC Council to move to Stage III, the implementation stage, to take place during 2017.
Stage III of the Poetry Trail involves the creation and installation of innovative works of public art linking sculpture and poetry, at three very special places in the Sunshine Coast hinterland: Little Yabba Creek near Kenilworth, Russell Family Park at Montville, and a section of the Heritage Trail at Maleny near Pattemore House and the golf course. Both the poems and the sculpture designs were inspired by the history, heritage and unique environmental features of the selected sites.
Please visit the www.pentepoets.com website for the full story of the poetry trail project. You'll also be able to hear the poets read some of the poems they have written for the project, and see the designs prepared by the artists.
The funding plan to complete the final stage includes:
submissions to both local and State Government and philanthropic institutions supporting the arts
sponsorship from corporations and Sunshine Coast businesses for the complete poetry trail, or on a site-by-site basis
donations either online through the Australian Cultural Fund, or directly
Funding will be applied towards:
art creation (by the three artists)
installation of the poetry sculptures (at the three hinterland sites)
promotion and launch of the poetry trail
Community support is a vital part of ensuring the Poetry Trail can be completed during 2017, and the poetry trail committee is currently seeking sponsorship for the project.
The Poetry Trail project has been invited to submit a proposal to be part of the Sunshine Coast 50th Celebrations later in the year, which would be a perfect opportunity to showcase our sponsors as well as the literary and artistic talent of the region.
If you are interested in becoming a Poetry Trail Sponsor or Supporter, or would like further information, please contact the project coordinator, Judith Bandidt (contact details below).
