Maleny Commerce

Representing the local business community since 1986.

Presidents Report
It's AGM time - I know not very exciting but it is for the volunteers that serve on your Chamber of Commerce.

We started the year off with our Strategic Planning workshop creating subcommittees for more efficient operation. As a member, what would you like to see Maleny Commerce achieve in 2021 to benefit you and your business?

We have made one big decision and that is to change how we host the Christmas Festival. Every year we host a street fair and over several years we have tried to engage CBD businesses to stay open and get involved. However due to the setup of the event and using the closed street format made for not a viable situation for businesses to stay open.  Montville Commerce made a change to their Christmas Festival last year with a late night shopping and entertainment event which was a huge success. We want our event to continue as a local community event as it has for over 75 years however we want our businesses to also benefit and believe Montville may just have gotten it right so we will give it a go in Maleny. If you are interested in joining the subcommittee working on this event you are very welcome. You don't have to be an executive to join any of our subcommittees. Of course your input as a business will help us shape our new plan for the Christmas Festival.

Time for me to say goodbye as President but hello as Maleny Commerce Administration Officer. Kay Ridge has held this position for the past couple of years and now her and I are swapping roles. She has decided she wants to step up to President and I will step into the administration role. So you will still see me at meetings and of course I am still heading up the Maleny Gift Card subcommittee as a volunteer. I have also accepted the same role working for Montville Commerce bringing some collaboration between the two communities. Let's face it we are both on the hinterland and we both survive and thrive on tourism so supporting each other is key.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time as President and love what as a team we have achieved. I thank the volunteers that I have worked with during this time, you made it so easy for me. I wish Kay and the incoming executives all the best and look forward to supplying them with administrative support.
Have a good month.
