A word from our President
What a busy month it has been. This month your committee got together to work out a more current strategic plan that will include us having a membership drive. Without members, we simply will not exist.
It was also unfortunate due to lack of attendance that we cancelled this months network meeting. We understand that everyone gets busy and that you need to see value in what we are doing. We have therefore made the decision to hold bi-monthly get-togethers.
May is Business Month Tuesday, May 11th, 2022 at 7 am we are going to have a breakfast meeting followed by a mini-workshop. The mini-workshop will commence at 9 am and finish at Noon. The event will be subsidised by the Australian Small Business Advisory Service (ASBAS) and will provide two one hour sessions on education and learning how to retain your customers and customer relations and a one-hour session on choosing the right social media for your business. Bookings are essential and you will find out all details in this newsletter. We have also been fortunate to be selected for a small grant from DESBT which will be used for this event.
Thursday 29th July 2021, 5.30 pm onwards we will showcase our second event for the year, a dinner at Tranquil Park where we are bringing in a keynote speaker Eric Bailey. Eric Bailey is a former basketball player with the Hobart Devils, Melbourne Tigers and Gold Coast Rollers in the National Basketball League. Bailey attended Boise State University. He played in the Australian NBL for Hobart between 1983 and 1984. In 1985 he moved to Melbourne where he played until 1989. Eric now resides in Brisbane.

Invitation to provide feedback on the JobMaker Hiring Credit
Late last year the Morrison Government passed legislation to establish the JobMaker Hiring Credit, giving businesses access to up to $200 per week for each eligible employee.
Youth unemployment was particularly impacted by restrictions imposed as part of last year’s health response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the JobMaker Hiring Credit was specifically designed to encourage businesses to take on additional employees from a young demographic, among our many other support mechanisms.
I am very interested to hear from businesses who benefitted from the JobMaker Hiring Credit. I would be keen to hear any feedback you may have about whether you found the opportunity a success or whether there were challenges along the way. Please simply respond to this email to share your experiences.
For those of you who have not explored this option to date, the JobMaker Hiring Credit is a fixed amount of $200 per week for an eligible employee aged 16 to 29 years and $100 per week for an eligible employee aged 30 to 35 years paid quarterly in arrears by the Australian Taxation Office.
To be eligible, the employee must have been receiving JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance (Other) or Parenting Payment for at least one of the previous three months, assessed on the date of employment. The hiring credit is not available to an employer who does not increase their headcount and payroll. The legislative framework also prohibits both employers and employees from entering into contrived schemes in order to gain access to or increase the amount payable.
The JobMaker Hiring Credit can be accessed until 6 October 2021.
This is possible through the Chamber Alliance Business Mentoring program. The use of experienced business professionals giving back to the community on a volunteer basis makes this possible. The mentors bring a wealth of experience and offer to guide you and your business to the goals that you set.
To see if this program is for you, come along to the speed mentoring session at 5.30pm on April 14th. There you will be given the opportunity to speak to several different mentors to sample what the mentoring program can provide. This is obligation free and free of charge.
Or if you would like to talk to some Call Paul Whinnett Phone: 0447 826 602
