Interim Begins Next Week

The first Legislative Interim session will begin next week and we will meet on the third Wednesday of each month until the regular legislative session begins again. While in Interim we meet in committees that are made up of both senators and representatives.

This differs from in-session standing committees where both the house and senate have their own committees to approve or deny bills that reach their desks. During interim each legislator will usually be appointed to two interim committees as well as one appropriations subcommittee.

This year I will be working in the Infrastructure/ Gen. Government Appropriations Subcommittee.
Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee
and Public Utilities/Energy/Technology Committee

During this time we focus on key issues and recommend legislation for the upcoming session. This time is a great opportunity for YOU, to give your valuable opinion regarding issues facing our state.

You can get involved or watch the legislative live streams by going to and clicking on calendars. You can also watch past sessions from there as well.

My Legislation

When a bill isn't passed during the legislative session it can be sent to study during interim. This way we can evaluate and make changes as needed to make the legislation more feasible.

A State Park in the Oquirrhs has been a high priority for me. It brings together the importance of preservation of the Oquirrhs, as well as recreation opportunities for our community. I'm very excited to be working on this during interim and am hopeful that we will be able to work together with our stakeholders to develop a State Park closer to our community.

Child Support amendments is a bill that didn't make it out of committee last year. The point of this bill is to ensure that guardians and custodial parents of children are able to collect back owed child support for up to 8 years if the obligatory party hasn't paid off the arrears. The purpose of this bill is to ensure that custodial parents and guardians are supported while raising a child and reimbursed for funds owed.

Emergency preparedness has been in the works for the last couple of years and I'm grateful we are taking the time to get this right. Since the Magna earthquake, we have realized just how vulnerable some of our states infrastructure is. I'm going to continue to work with my colleagues and our emergency management personnel to ensure that when another earthquake happens we are prepared. We live in earthquake country. We are not immune from this and we need to make sure we are prepared when the next one happens. Whether that happens in two years or ten years.

Your Support Matters

As you know, I'm running to be re-elected to the Legislature as your representative. Running a campaign takes money to reach out to voters and let them know what we have accomplished during this time and what we plan to accomplish in the future. Your donation means the world to me.

If you are able to donate but are not able to donate online you can send a check to:
