October Newsletter

Happy October! We are just over a month away from Election Day, November 8th. Be sure to keep an eye out for ballots as they will be arriving around October 18th!

We are finally seeing cooler temperatures along the Wasatch Front. This is the perfect time to get out and go on a drive to see the be-UTAH-ful fall colors.

My heart goes out to the families in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian on the East Coast. You can donate to Red Cross to help those in need here.

Happening on The Hill

We've had a busy month at the Capitol! The Workforce Services and Economic Development Committee received the long-awaited audit results/limited review on the Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA), as expected the results were alarming. This was conducted by the Legislative Auditor General; the whole project for the last four years has been poorly run, with very little oversight or transparency. We heard from Ben Hart, the newly appointed Executive Director. I was very impressed by his openness and willingness to discuss where we need to improve. This went a long way in making my committee members and I more confident in the direction the UIPA is taking. I will continue to push for transparency and for our communities to have a seat at the table as we move forward. This project will have an immense impact on our district and we need to do it right. It is up to us to hold the UIPA board accountable as we move forward.

We are also continuing work on the FEMA legislation to help mitigate costs that occur due to natural disasters. This legislation is vital when it comes to helping our community recover as quickly as possible in the wake of these events.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Our Lady of Lourdes Annual Spaghetti Dinner 90th Anniversary

Another great community event in the books: The 90th Anniversary of the Our Lady of Lourdes Annual Spaghetti Dinner!

I am so grateful to be a part of this annual tradition alongside Mayor Dan Peay and so many other friends and neighbors. Thank you to the army of volunteers who made this possible; I was honored to do my small part. I love our community!

Senior Center Candidate Meet & Greet

I will be visiting our local senior centers to visit with the residents. Join me at Kearns Senior Center on Friday, October 7th, and Magna Senior Center on Tuesday, October 11th! Both events begin at 10 AM.

In 2021, I voted in favor of HB0086 which directly reduces the tax burden of Social Security to make sure our senior community members are able to thrive. I am committed to continuing to fight for the issues that affect our senior residents.
Congratulations to Senator Jani Iwamoto!

Senator Iwamoto is a driving force in our legislature. She has been recognized as a nominee for the Eleanor Roosevelt Award as well as the Utah Business Magazine 2022 Living Color Award.  I am grateful to work alongside her as a colleague and friend.

Granite School District Candidate Night - October 18th

Come meet the candidates! This event is open to the public and will be held at Matheson Jr. High on October 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. I hope to see you there!
