June Interim Recap

The weather is warming up and so is everything else as we prepare for the next session. During the Public Utilities Committee, we have been vigilant in working on solutions for renewable energy in Utah. We have also been discussing ways to augment our energy grid to make it more reliable and efficient. These are very important issues facing our state at the moment that often go overlooked and our committee is working hard to make sure issues are addressed swiftly and effectively.

Business Champion Awards

I'm very honored and humbled to have received the Salt Lake Chamber's Business Champion Awards for the second year in a row. These awards are given to legislators who support bills that support businesses here in our state. I'm always very proud to stand by Utah Businesses and look forward to continuing our efforts to keep local businesses running.

My Legislation

I'm very excited about this next session and the bills I am working on.

Credit Reporting for Renters is a bill I will be running in the upcoming session. This bill will give renters the opportunity to build credit with their rental history. As almost all of us know, when we pay rent to a landlord, the only thing it does is secure our place to live, and it can be doing a lot more for a huge majority of our state. Allowing people the option to have rent reported on their credit will show credit history and help people advance in their financial and individual security.

Homestead Exemption Amendments are next on the list for upcoming legislation. I'm currently working on a bill that would allow people to keep a larger portion of the equity in their homes when filing bankruptcy. Currently, state law only allows a person to keep up to $42,000 in equity of their primary residence which is a law that hasn't been updated since 2008. With rising home values we need an updated law that allows individuals to keep equity in their homes when the unimaginable happens.

Re-Election Campaign Kick-Off

This year's campaign kickoff was a huge success! Running for office is always an exciting time. Thank you to everyone who came out to show your support. Also, if you haven't taken your family to the new Magna Regional Park I highly recommend that you do. If you missed the kick-off and wanted to grab a yard sign or sign up to volunteer you can still do so by clicking one of the buttons below.

WestFest 2022

WestFest kicked off Thursday, June 16th-19th. It is located at Centennial Park (5405 W 3100 S. WVC.)  There will be fireworks both Friday and Saturday nights at 10 pm along with a fun and affordable carnival. I will be there Saturday with a booth so be sure to bring the family for some fun and stop by to say hello while you're there. You can see the full schedule for Westfest HERE

Celebrate Juneteenth

On June 19th, we get to finally recognize Juneteenth as a federal holiday for the first time. Meaning banks and state ran facilities will be closed on Monday, the 20th. Most importantly we get to celebrate the freedom of our black community. On June 19th, 1865, the remaining enslaved African Americans were freed from slavery in Texas. More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had already freed them.

Join Me in The Parade

This is one of my favorite parades to attend and be a part of. This year, I want to invite you, your family, your dance crew, or just your friends to join me in walking in it. It is so much fun to see all the happy faces throughout the parade.

We will be meeting on July 4th at the church on 3100 S. 8400 W. at 11:30 AM.
I really hope to see you all there!

Your Support Matters

As you know, I'm running to be re-elected to the Legislature as your representative. Running a campaign takes money to reach out to voters and let them know what we have accomplished during this time and what we plan to accomplish in the future. Your donation means the world to me.

If you are able to donate but are not able to donate online you can send a check to:
