We wish to notify you that a new version of the EDGE App (Version 2.2) will go live within about four months. The purpose of the new release is to update the baseline, which is a requirement of EDGE protocols. The update will incorporate vital feedback from our EDGE Experts and our broader community of users. By continuously working together, we can ensure that EDGE reflects recent market developments.
Here's a summary of improvements in Version 2.2, to be implemented globally across all building typologies:
- A switch from ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2007 to ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2016 for the baseline, which will impact efficiency measures related to HVAC.
- A tightening of the baseline for lighting efficiency requirements to 90 lumens per watt. (LEDs are to be considered business-as-usual and will become the baseline for EDGE).
- Addition of new energy efficiency measures for smart meters in non-residential buildings, as well as new energy efficiency measures for air leakage and thermostatic controls for heating systems in all building typologies.
- The baseline for each material category will be modified, including thickness and steel rebar for floor slabs and roof construction, to better mirror current practices.
There will be a six-month grace period when EDGE App users can initiate the design and certification process for their projects in either Version 2.1.5 or Version 2.2. If selecting Version 2.1.5, there will be a five-year window for projects to be certified upon registration.
EDGE must constantly evolve to require a minimum of 20 percent efficiencies against a reasonable base case, wherever a project is being built. We look forward to working together with you to ensure that we continue to improve the standards of global building stock.
We'll update you again in a few months' time to confirm precisely when Version 2.2 will go live, with more details about the changes that will be in place. In the meantime, should you have questions or concerns about how the new release may impact your current and/or future projects, please reach out to us at edge@ifc.org.
Thank you as always for your support of EDGE.
