Summer Greetings from OK Messages!

-Margaret Fuller
Zay Lynn is nine years old, and she has been participating in the Oklahoma Messages Project for five years. Her mother is currently incarcerated. Zay Lynn discusses the impact that her involvement in OMP has had on her life including the fact that the DVDs and books she receives has helped her build a relationship with her mother and also helped make her a better reader.

Improving children’s lives through shared reading with their incarcerated parents.

As children get to see and hear their parents sharing positive messages like “I love you, and I’m proud of you” through OK Messages DVDs,  it helps them see themselves in a positive way, and they know that their parents are safe and love them.

Reading is an essential component to the success of any child. We know that incarceration negatively impacts children in many ways. Reading can help to minimize these impacts – especially when it is done with the parent. That is why our program is so critical to help connect parents and children together through reading stories.

Our Amazon Wish list link below will take you to some amazing kids books that our families have loved reading and getting in the mail! Each book makes such an impact on Oklahoma kids who have a parent in prison.

Boosting Literacy

72 percent of children who received messages from their parents showed improvement in reading; 59 percent had significantly more interest in school. This increases their likelihood of staying in school and staying out of prison.

Building Confidence

78 percent of children who participated in the Oklahoma Messages Project had higher self esteem; 88 percent had a better bond with their parent and caregiver. This increase in self esteem allows them to be more successful in building healthy relationships

Bonding Families

For the majority of children in Oklahoma, in-person visits aren’t possible. So the “Messages from Mom” and “Messages from Dad” video visits and books provided by the OK Messages Project fill a huge gap in the lives of Children.

Your caring action- volunteering, donating, support and encouragement- means everything to OK Messages and the families we serve.  You make such a difference in the lives of kids across Oklahoma who have a parent in prison.  Precious young people who deserve to be seen, heard, valued and supported through untenable times, YOU HELP MAKE HOPE AND HEALING HAPPEN! Thank YOU!

Please feel free to contact us via social media, or the info below with anything you'd like to share, questions about the Project, volunteering, let us know your favorite kids books, whatever it may be- we'd love to hear from you!
