Quarterly Newsletter - WINTER 2021
Principal's Message

Hello Tiger families and welcome to the holiday season! I am pleased to report that we have been having a very successful school year here at the high school. Our football team this season has done remarkably under the leadership of Coach Jeff Chi, reaching CIF playoffs at a level that has not been seen since the 1970s. This bodes well for our entire program as well as for next Fall. In addition, our cross-country team went all the way to state finals, an amazing feat by our runners. Our incredible SPHS drama teacher Nick Hoffa along with the technical skills of James Jontz put on a wonderful rendition of Sense and Sensibility under the stars in the Tiger patio in November; it was a marvelous showcase of student talent in the best possible setting, literally magical. On top of that the dance ensemble and the instrumental music concert in December prove that our teachers and our students are capable of astounding feats and are a true testament to what our students are able to produce in the arts. We are thrilled that our students are excelling on the field, on the stage, and in the classroom.
Over Thanksgiving break we were able to do some deep cleaning as well as some power washing across the campus and will continue that effort over the Christmas break so that students can return second semester to a campus that sparkles, one that befits them and their efforts. Providing a campus that is clean and safe is a personal priority of mine and one that I intend to see through, as I am a firm believer that students perform better in an environment that is neat, clean, and beautiful to be in.
As we head into the second semester we are of course approaching some large milestones, graduation notwithstanding. Spring time brings us not only new leaves and blooms on the trees all across campus but also the renewed energy that invigorates us as we head into the testing period. AP testing and state testing will be here before we know it and our students will be amply prepared.
As I approach the holidays as well as the end of my first semester here I am filled with gratitude for the people that work on this campus daily, striving to not only educate our kids but help them to become the best version of themselves possible. I know that with our combined efforts as well as those from the PTSA and other organizations that benefit our students that we are truly producing extraordinary young people who will become excellent additions to the world and our community. Happy Holidays to all of you, please be safe and we will see you in January.

PTSA President's Message

Dear SPHS Tiger Families,

I would personally like to thank you for all of your support during this Fall semester! As we are still using ZOOM for general meetings and educational forums, we’ve noticed that there is continued record attendance. When the Executive Board was planning the programs and budget for this school year, we were unsure what to expect. We are extremely appreciative of your contributions to our Tiger community, because your participation, membership and donations are essential.

With the goal of providing social connection for parents and guardians, PTSA added something new this year- a Parents Homecoming Coffee in person, co-hosted with the Booster Club and Music Boosters. This may become a new tradition! And, for the second year, this time in person at the Mamma’s tent, PTSA hosted two successful Parent Socials in November, with two more coming in 2022. We appreciate everyone turning out for these evening gatherings!

Thanks to your generosity, our Wish Night team has dispersed over $10,000 in requests in teacher supplies, books, and teaching aids. And our Club Mini-Grants committee met this month to disperse $3,000 in No Sweat funds to our student clubs.

If you haven’t already, please check out our new YouTube channel for some of our parent forums including Fentanyl, and Naviance. We invite you to also like, follow, and share our posts on Facebook and Instagram

Our next PTSA general meeting is Monday, January 31st at 6:30 pm, followed by a forum to be announced soon. Everyone is welcome to attend PTSA general meetings, so spread the word and invite a friend to join PTSA! We hope to see you there!

Wishing you joy, health, and peace in 2022,

Christina Holmes, PTSA President
