Faith and Life Convention 2015

The Diocese held its second annual Faith and Life Convention on Saturday, 26th September in Our Lady and Saint Patrick’s College Knock, Belfast.

The convention was a forum for people to gather and participate in a range of conversations about the meaning of faith and its relevance to their everyday lives.

The theme this year was 'What hope for faith?' Over the course of the day participants had plenty of opportunities to address this question through a wide variety of workshops. Overall, the theme invited participants to reflect on some of the ways that they as Catholics are called to personal and ecclesial renewal today.

The Convention opened with a keynote address delivered by Fr Alan McGuckian, S.J.

The Keynote address was followed by a Panel Discussion. The panellists were Fr Timothy Bartlett, Dr Johnston McMaster, Therese Ferry and Baroness Nuala O’Loan.

In the afternoon, various workshops explored topics such as the beginning of life, the pastoral response to suicide, sectarianism and reconciliation, ecology, youth ministry, family prayer in a changing world and the issues facing Northern Ireland in the upcoming referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

Celebrating Service

The weekend of 3rd / 4th October was dedicated to celebrating and acknowledging the work and role of voluntary groups, committees and organisations within the life of the parish. The Gathering Space of Holy Family Church was transformed as 37 'stalls' were set up encompassing the Liturgy, prayer, befriending, hospitality, finance, communications, young people, welcoming, ecumenism, safeguarding, education, developing world, social and pastoral dimensions of the parish.

Enthusiasm, generosity, commitment, creativity, goodwill, skills and talents in abundance were the hallmarks of the event and ensured a vibrant exhibition to inspire, encourage and challenge fellow parishioners. This was a wonderful opportunity to continue to build parish identity, community and belonging.

Sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated and supported the event.
