Lenten Prayer
Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race Jesus Christ our Saviour as a model of humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man and giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You by following His example of suffering and make us worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Annual St Brigid's Day Lecture  'Pope Francis and the Joy of the Gospel: the Social Dimension' by Cardinal Peter Turkson
Cardinal Turkson gave the annual St.Brigid's Day Lecture on Wednesday, 4th March in St Brigid's Parish Belfast. He spoke on the theme of "Pope Francis and the Joy of the Gospel: the social dimension".

Cardinal Turkson is the current President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, a key department of the Holy See with particular responsibility for promotion of the Church's teaching and activity on issues of justice and peace throughout the world.
He said that other parts of the world look to the peace process in Northern Ireland as a source of great hope for their own conflict situations. He talked about the priority that Pope Francis gives in his work to  building what the Pope calls " a peaceful, a multi-faceted culture of encounter" as the key to peace at every level of human relationships.

Lenten Trocaire Campaign
This year the Lenten Campaign focuses on a small village called Sebeye in Tigray in Northern Ethiopia. Because of climate change it is becoming impossible to grow crops in the region. 85% of Ethiopians rely on rain fed agriculture to produce food to eat.   The rains no longer come when they should. January to June are the toughest months. That's the 'hungry season'. People survive using a government run 'food for work' scheme. One person from each household is allowed to work on this scheme and Ali, father of Mahlet -the little girl on the Trócaire box, does this.
It need not be like this and with the help of the generous people of Northern Ireland it will change for Mahlet, her family and the community in Sebeye. The full story and how to donate is available at
