Cyclone Oma whips up some wind during February

February was a windy one this year with quite a few days lost to strong winds. Cyclone Oma threatened the coast whipping up some big seas on the exposed parts. The bay didn't’t see any damage from the cyclone luckily. We also received no rain ! Some rain would certainly be welcomed, with this being one of the driest starts to a year that I can remember.

A change of season is now upon us, with the first low coming down the coast marking the start of the longtail season. This cant be true enough as we have started seeing longtails show up in schools right on cue.
Guests have enjoyed the surface action with more to come through Autumn.

School size longtails are turning up

We have had a few sessions targeting longtail tuna on the flats so far this season. Casting soft plastics for the spin fisherman has been the best technique with solid hook-ups. Stick baits also get good results making for some great surface bites. For fly anglers the chance to cast a fly at a big longtail in shallow water is something else and our flats are certainly unique for that experience.

Golden trevally, queenfish and cobia were also about during February with some good specimens in the mix. Working soft vibes deep in the water column has produced some good fish along with the ever reliable 5 inch Zman streakz. School mackerel have started to turn up on a few of the inshore reefs which has been a bit of fun and a good way to get a tasty feed.

As we move through Autumn we will see longtail schools pick up along with mac tuna. Golden trevally, cobia, queenfish, various mackerels and more will also be on offer. It’s a great time to be fishing the Fraser Coast with some frantic tuna action keeping guests busy. If you are looking at booking a day get in early to secure your dates. 2019 Snapper Season

In House Fly Casting Lessons and Coaching

We now have a in house qualified fly casting instructor, Hervey Bay local Taz Jefferies. Taz has learnt how to teach fly casting through the Federation Of Fly Fishers program and has been a qualified insructor for some years. He also made the film Black Torpedoes which featured some of Hervey Bay's best fly fishing oppertunitys.

We are very ecited to be able to provide a service from begining to cast and learing the fundamentals, tying flys right through to being guided on one of our vessels with our Sage pro guides.Casting lessons and fly fishing basics with Taz start from $100 for 2 hours. Chorleys Visit NZ

Chozza, Jess and Archer took a few weeks off during February and visited NZ. Starting at Christchurch we visited the Holm family for a few nights. Warren kindly took me up to the high country for some lake fishing. Stalking crusing fish on the lakes was very cool.

We stoped at a few rivers on the way to Queenstown and caught a few browns also.

It was a great break after a big summer season. We are recharged and ready to go for the busy tuna season ahead. A big thanks to the Sarina,Warren and Cooper for their hospitaity and along with the Royters for the fun fishing around Queenstown.
