Happy New Year and all the Best For 2019  !

Well we are into another year and full swing, Jess, Archer, Murray, Pete and myself would like to wish you all a Happy New year and can not wait to guide you again in 2019.

December proved to be a tough month with a few days lost to bad weather. January has been a different story with light to moderate easterly’s almost every day. The light winds made for some opportunities to get out and explore a little wider.

Cobia off a big bull ray

Spotted mackerel switched on during January as they continue their migration. The size has been fairly consistent around 65-75 cm. The spottys have had a few mac tuna in with them along with the odd school of longtails on the edges.

Spotty mackerel providing some sport

Big golden trevally have also been a highlight over the past few months with some big schools about. A range of techniques has been successful from micro jigs, vibes, plastics working well and saltwater fly when conditions suit.

Golden action

Queenfish have been rampaging through the bay and will increase in numbers over the next few months as they aggregate to spawn. Finding the aggregations can make for some great fishing with fish well over the meter mark being found in the schools. They are a sucker for a top water presentation with pencil poppers getting some explosive strikes.

Queenie fun

Guests have enjoyed other species throughout December and  January such as broad bar mackerel, spanish mackerel, diamond trevally, tea leaf trevally, GT’s, scarlet sea perch, coral trout, cod , painted sweetlip, kingfish and more.

Barramundi Season Opens

QUEENSLAND anglers are gearing up for barramundi season, which re-opens at midday on Thursday.
Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol district manager Greg Bowness reminded fishers to check the size and possession limits that apply to barramundi when the season opens.“Before dropping a line, it’s important that fishers refresh their knowledge of the rules and regulations to avoid being fined,” Mr Bowness said.

“The minimum size limit for barramundi on the east coast and Gulf of Carpentaria is 58 centimetres, the maximum size limit is 120 centimetres and the possession limit is five fish per person.
