OPPORTUNITY- According to an article published in the Chicago Suntimes, the cold storage market is an attractive one for prospective business owners and investors. The surge is due to an increase of at-home meals which is forcing restaurants, e-commerce stores, and grocery delivery services to store perishable goods in cold storage facilities.

POLITICS- Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Commissioner Allison Arwady, M.D., announced today the awarding of $8 million in annual grant funding to 32 community-based organizations to provide trauma-informed mental healthcare in the city’s areas of highest need. These 32 centers of care will work with the existing CDPH mental health clinics in comprising a mental health safety net system where all persons can receive care regardless of ability to pay, health insurance status or immigration status.

ECONOMICS- If you own a performing arts venue and have faced economic challenged due to COVID-19, here's an opportunity to secure a grant to cover expenses. Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced the new Performing Arts Venue Relief Program to help performing arts venues which have lost significant revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications opened Monday, October 5, and the program will provide $10,000 grants to up to 120 for-profit and nonprofit Chicago-based performing arts venues who have been closed to performances. The 2020 City of Chicago Performing Arts Venue Relief Grants Program was created, with support from the Walder Foundation and the Arts for Illinois Relief Fund and in partnership with Accion, to support this critical arts and culture sector with the challenges they face from the pandemic.
