A Letter From The Rector

St. Paul's Weekly Update

January 27, 2023

Dear Friends,

During last weekend’s vestry retreat Tom Fransen was elected Senior Warden, and Barb Magee Junior Warden.  I look forward to working with them and the entire vestry of Gerri Batchelor, Oliver Gatchalian, Guy Vitaglione, Heather Gates, Sally Moller, Cathryn Lamb, Brad Hirschy, Vickie Johnson, John Armstrong, and Karen Smith, as well as John Goehrke, Treasurer, and Lanny Wase, Clerk of the Vestry.
Join us for Adult Formation this Sunday as we explore the gospel of Matthew. Communion class begins on February 5.  Javier and I will lead the sessions, something we look forward to each year.  Come on by to St. Paul’s for a Blood Drive on February 11.
The Pancake Supper makes it return. If you are new to St. Paul’s, you do not want to miss this event.
See you at church this Sunday.
               George
Adult Formation
On Sundays from 10:15-11:00 a.m. in the St. Paul’s chapel, join the clergy for a conversation about our lectionary year as we navigate through the Gospel of Matthew.  How does this particular gospel shed light on our understanding of who Jesus is?  What does this have to tell us about who we are called to be today?  See below for the forum schedule.
As we head back to the chapel for our forums, the sessions will no longer be available live via Zoom.  Instead, they will be recorded and posted to the St. Paul’s YouTube page afterward.  We appreciate your patience and understanding; the recordings should be available within a few days of when the particular forum takes place.
Communion Class
The spring communion class is a three-session class designed to enrich a child's understanding of the Holy Eucharist.  The class is designed for 1st through 3rd graders.  The completion of this class is not a prerequisite for receiving communion, but designed to deepen a child's experience of it.
The structure of the classes will reflect the Eucharist itself:  We will gather, hear the Word of God, respond to the Word, offer our gifts, we celebrate, and we are sent out.  Children will have an opportunity to examine closely the furnishing and layout of the Church.  Within this context, children are able to ask questions, and understand God's invitation to everyone into sacred spaces.
Communion classes will meet three times during Lent, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on the following dates:
          Sunday, February 5
          Sunday, February 12
          Sunday, February 19.
We will culminate the class with a celebration at the 9:00 a.m. service on Sunday, February 26th
