"Francis Ellen Watkins Harper:
A Remarkable Life"
Guest Speaker:  Cindy Hesemann

Many of us know the story of Susan B. Anthony and her connection to our faith, but few of us are acquainted with Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, a black Abolitionist, Suffragist, and Unitarian. In this service we will learn about and honor Harper’s prescient insistence that Woman’s Emancipation cannot truly succeed in the absence of the Emancipation of Black America.

Guest Speaker: Cindy Hesemann (she/her/hers). Cindy comes to us via Zoom from Northwest Indiana where she and her husband attend First Unitarian Church of Hobart and are active members of their Faith in Action Ministry. For the past year Cindy has regularly attended PUUF’s WOW group. Cindy recently retired from a career as a high school special education teacher. When she is not attending a book group, Zen sangha, or yoga class, you can find her planning the next chapter of her life during long hikes in the Indiana Dunes with her husband and their two dogs.

Attend in person at the PUUF Meeting House, 426 W. Lewis
   or via Zoom.

Session 4
All are welcome! We are exploring the traits attributed to white supremacist culture. Last time, we touched on individualism! UUs certainly have celebrated individualism as a must have for religious freedom and personal expression. How is it of all things a product of racism or oppressive systemic behaviors? We will pick up there this time around! Come weigh in, try on some ideas that may feel strange to you, and we will look at a few more of these traits together.

TOWN HALL MEETING

Saturday, January 28 at 12:00-1:00 p.m.
In person or via Zoom

So why come to town hall meeting on Saturday?
  • HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
In the 50 years of PUUF's existence, there has probably never been a $50,000 + amount of money that needs to be used by this Fellowship. How?

  • MINISTERIAL SIGNIFICANCE:
In the 5 years of our contracting with Rev. Jenny, it has never been so obvious that we/she need 3/4 time Ministry and Salary. This puts our Pledge Ability as well as this Pot of Money from Land Sale into focus. This Pot of Money cannot solve the whole problem. Can it help?
  • BUILDING SIGNIFICANCE: We continue to grow into this rental space, with pleasure and displeasure. Have we out grown it? Will we? Do we need to prepare?

  • IS IT WORTH YOUR HOUR ON SATURDAY TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS WITH YOUR CHURCH FAMILY? I surely hope so.
— Becky, your Board President
