Gina Clayton

We are saddened to learn of the loss of Gina Clayton, academic and campaigner who "was an indomitable fighter for the right to asylum" a former board member for Sheffield City of Sanctuary. We thank her for her support in setting up the UK wide umbrella for City of Sanctuary.   Please read more about her in the Guardian obituary written by former Manager at City of Sanctuary Sheffield.
Council leaders oppose the Borders Bill

Great Open letter: Seeking Sanctuary is a Human Right from Bristol City of Sanctuary signed by MPs, councillors and local organisations who came together against the #AntiRefugeeBill.
In City of Sanctuary Newcastle, the Council leader made a powerful statement and in the first City of Sanctuary, Sheffield, Council leaders have written to the government damning its new plans for immigration. These stories may inspire you to encourage your local leaders to take action too. See the new website below for resources.

Events, Resources and Opportunities
              CoS UK Conference

We have decided to hold our Annual Conference and AGM online on September 22nd & 23rd.  This ensures that as many people as possible can participate without the risks of travel and cancellations due to the uncertainties of the pandemic.
Look out for the email on Network Membership.
Funding Opportunity in Wales

The Heritage Fund have a grant funding scheme - Local Places for Nature ‒ Breaking Barriers. This is a revenue-only grant scheme to help excluded and disadvantaged communities to connect with nature in Wales. This provides a great opportunity for Welsh CoS groups to develop Gardens of Sanctuary or Sanctuary breaks.

      Breaking the Frame

Excellent report on Challenging representations of migration in TV news by The Refugee Journalism Project which challenges broadcasting narrative frames and proposes how more accurate representations can be achieved by expanding the range of stories that are told, and who gets to tell the stories of migration.
