News from around the Network
Sanctuary Scholarships
There are now 14 Universities of Sanctuary in the UK with many more working towards recognition. In addition, over 70 universities now offer scholarships and other support to improve access to Higher Education for people seeking sanctuary. Now is the time for potential applicants to look at what is available and to consider applying to university. We work closely with STAR who produce a comprehensive list of scholarships and bursaries which can be found here

If you haven’t already, follow Universities of Sanctuary on Twitter where we will be adding more information about scholarships and other opportunities as we receive them.

Campaigns and Actions
Family Reunion Campaigns

There are two distinct campaigns aiming to reunite children seeking sanctuary with their families and we support both.  All children need their families and our government can easily make this happen.
  • Most urgent is the Safe Passage campaign to write to MPs to keep the "Dubs Amendment" enabling legal protection for separated children in Europe to reunite with their families in the UK after Brexit. Whilst Parliament now voted against the amendment, it still needs to go through the House of Lords, so important to keep up the pressure by writing to MPs and signing and sharing the petition.  Download the briefing here.
  • Families Together Coalition campaign to enable children who have found sanctuary in the UK to sponsor their parents to join them.  Click here for the campaign toolkit.

Post Election

City of Sanctuary groups and supporters are encouraged to write to their new (or re-elected) MP as soon as possible to build working relationships, awareness and understanding, and to advocate for our principles of welcome in The Birmingham Declaration and the campaigns of our partners. The new Immigration Bill is already going though Parliament and we are in danger of missing out on much needed reform. Here is a suggested template letter as a starting point. Please try to keep in touch with coalition campaigns (Lift the Ban, Families Together, Detention Forum, Asylum Matters etc.
Memories from My Land

The beautiful recording by Margaret Fingerhut of 'Memories from My Land' from Kurdish composer Moutaz Arian has had great coverage in the classical music sector and is still raising funds for City of Sanctuary. Download it here, listen, share and please continue to promote.

Please visit the Asylum Matters website for more campaigns to follow and support.
