Dear Fellow Democrat,
It has come to my attention that Jeff Smith has sent a letter to DPW convention delegates informing them of his intention to name me Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin should he be elected on June 6th.
I want to make it extremely clear that I did not know about this letter and that I would not broker a deal to ensure a position for myself after the election. The hiring process for DPW staff positions should remain open and fair, honoring the work of current DPW staff and providing the opportunity for current and potential staff members to indicate their interest in available positions.
It is not for Jeff to unilaterally decide what is in the best interest of the DPW, the state of Wisconsin, or me. Jeff has approached me with the Executive Director position idea and I explained that my strengths as a fundraiser, team-builder, and spokesperson make me better suited to the Chair position.
That he saw fit to mail this idea to delegates without my knowledge is disappointing and frustrating. This action by Jeff Smith is misguided at best, and at worst, sexist. It only serves to continue a trend of underhanded and misleading campaigning that has tainted the DPW chair election process.
I am running to be your DPW chair because I have the skills, passion, and commitment that our party needs in its top leader to be effective in 2016 and beyond.
I am running to be your DPW chair because I believe that we need to build a strong team and engage members from all levels of the party to develop values-based messaging, support Democrats running for office, and fix our midterm election turn out problem.
I am running to be your DPW chair because I have the fundraising skills, ability, and willingness to ensure our party has the resources we need to be successful. This is a core function of our DPW chair, and one that I am willing and excited to perform.
I am running to be your DPW chair because I believe that our next chair needs to be transparent and rise above the mudslinging and underhanded campaign tactics that we’ve seen in this Chair race. I will ensure the Democratic Party of Wisconsin keeps our eye on the prize: defeating Republicans and painting our state blue.
I am in this race to win. I ask you to join with me in building a stronger, more effective, more inclusive Party.
