There’s not too much to update you all on, organizing at Fridays for Future Calgary has been business as usual, we’ve been posting frequently on social media, planning for future campaigns and actions, and figuring out how we can better practice healthy activism to avoid burnout.

Upcoming Events

  • Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26th, the Calgary Climate Hub will be hosting The Haysboro Climate Conversation, for Haysboro residents, and other Calgarians to discuss what initiatives can be put in place in their community, to help prevent and mitigate climate change. Please RSVP here if you'd like to attend.

2020 was a crisis year ー the hottest on record. Given Canada’s considerable contributions to global carbon emissions, it is unacceptable that our governments continue to delay the action our world so desperately needs of us. Not everyone has the luxury of ignoring the climate crisis. We are calling out to our politicians to stop ignoring the climate crisis! Pass this tweet along to your elected officials!
Joe Biden cancelled the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office. This is a major win for climate, local ecosystems, and Indigenous communities along the route. Yet, the Alberta and Canadian governments claim that Keystone XL fits within Canada’s climate plan. How does exporting 830 000 barrels of oil a day fit within an acceptable climate plan? Justin Trudeau, take notes, climate leaders don’t approve offshore drilling projects, they cancel pipelines.

As you’ve most likely heard, Joe Biden, the new president of the United States signed many crucial executive orders on his first day of office. Climate wise, Biden cancelled the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, by removing their permit, and rejoined the Paris Agreement!

Many have died, and others are left with no choice but to accept dangerous working situations. Join the thousands of Canadians calling for full immigration status for all, without exceptions. Fridays for Future Calgary has signed as an organization. Sign the petition today!

Demand than Minister Wilkinson Makes Bill C-12 a World-Class Climate Law

The newly proposed legislation, Bill C-12,  although a step in a good direction, has many flaws. Sign the petition to demand bold action and achievable targets, just transition for all workers and true government accountability.
