St. Alban's Episcopal Church
This Week at St. Alban's

Tuesday, July 2, 2019

Dear all,

I'm back in the office today, grateful for a little time away, and eager to catch up on all the goings-on here at St. Alban's.

Three upcoming events are on my mind today - here's your reminder:
1. A's Baseball game and tailgate with All Souls, Sat. Aug. 3
We're a month out, and the tickets need to be purchased.
If you want to go, please call or email the office this week.
Cost is $39 and includes dinner and game.
2. Loving Janis: A Workshop
This Sunday, July 7 at 7 pm in the Parish Hall
Get out your tie-dyes and macrame headbands for another
amazing show with local singer/songwriter Kyra Gordon.
(Only $10!) Flyer below has details on this Joplin/Ian mashup
3. Zero Waste Workshop
Next Wednesday evening at 6: 30 pm in the library
Please join me and my new friend Stefanie Regni, owner of
Fillgood, a local business whose goal is to help folks cut use of
plastic packaging and move to more sustainable options.
I attended a worship Stefanie hosted and found it a convicting
encouraging resource. Plus, she makes sure folks can share
    ideas together.

As you'll see in the senior warden's note below, there was a small group gathered for the vestry meeting on Sunday, and we're planning another in-between meeting before July 21 so we can all catch up together. We'll keep you posted on the date/time, and also on the date of the next All Parish meeting for a more thorough update on our financial status, Calliope, and more.

It's good to be home, and how blessed we are to have this holy home together!

In love and gratitude,
Rev. Julie

From the Senior Warden, Sandy Burnett
The Vestry met this past Sunday, June 30.

Included in the agenda was the approval of annual Ina Lawrence Grant recommendations, and the vestry following agreed to the following, totaling $5250:
  1. Acta Non Verba                                           $250
  2. Albany Shower Program                         $1000
  3. BECAS                                                           $500
  4. Bread for the World                                    $500
  5. JFCS/immigration programs                   $500
  6. Planting Justice                                           $250
  7. Richmond College Prep                           $1000
  8. Writer Coach Connection                          $250
  9. Youth Spirit Artworks/Tiny Houses       $1000
Approval for grants recommended by the committee for Episcopal Relief and Development and Jubilee USA were held over for further information and conversation. The Vestry decided to ask the Ina Lawrence Grants Committee to develop “due diligence guidelines” for grantees, including reports on how previous grants were used, prior to receiving additional grants.

In other business, the Vestry learned that the new fence is due to be completed in mid-July and that the newly renovated music practice room will be available for tenants this month.

Because the financial reports needed additional work, the vestry also decided to schedule an ad hoc meeting within the next two weeks to discuss finances and budget actions. The date and time for this meeting will be announced as soon as it has been set.
