St. Alban's Episcopal Church
This Week at St. Alban's

Monday, January 28, 2019

Dear all,

Thank you to all who participated in our annual meeting yesterday. Below are links to the meeting booklet, financial reports, and the 2-page sheet of religious images we used as our starting place for discussion.

We have many challenges ahead of us this year, and I am very grateful for our newest vestry members, elected by you to guide and govern the church for the next three years. They are: Steve Hitchcock, Peggy Murray, and Mike Trevino. Each brings a host of leadership and organizational governance skill, along with a deep love for our parish and an abiding faith. Thanks in advance for your service!

Many thanks to outgoing members, Ade Akanni, Eric Lindgren (also retiring as treasurer), and Susan Weinberg Matteson. Your work and presence on the vestry these past three years has been so valuable!

In the meeting yesterday, the Rev. Sara Cosca-Warfield shared with us that she has accepted a call to serve as rector at St. Luke the Physician in Gresham, Oregon (outside of Portland). Her last Sunday with us will be February 10. Please contact me or Chanthip Phongkhamsavath if you'd like to be part of planning a special farewell coffee hour.

Please pray for the vestry as we gather for our start-of-the year retreat this Saturday. We have invited the Rev. Cn. Abbott Bailey, canon to the ordinary of the diocese, to join us as facilitator.

As we head into this 10th year of ministry together, I remain incredibly blessed and grateful to be your rector.

In love and gratitude,
Rev. Julie

Financial reports: 2018 balance sheet here; 2018 actual/2019 proposed budget here; capital campaign report here.

A note about the budget:
In Eric’s comments, he noted that the vestry (and parish) have hard work ahead this year. Our size as a worshipping community is not currently viable for supporting a full-time priest. Options to be explored: finding another faith community to rent our sanctuary outside of our worship time; increased use of building space (now that the sanctuary is usable again); Calliope coming into its own and generating income to be shared with St. Alban’s.
The most important piece: growing the congregation. We have a great treasure in our common life – let's not keep it a secret!
