St. Alban's Episcopal Church
This Week at St. Alban's
May 11, 2020

Dear Friends,
For those of you planning to attend today’s Vestry meeting at 4 p.m., please contact Rick Kern at rkern@berkeley.edu to receive a Zoom invitation. Also, you can download the Draft Agenda here, last months minutes here, Financial reports: Revenue and Expenses here and April Balance sheet here.

We reached a financial milestone this month in that we finally are up to date on our payroll expenses to the Diocese, including the debt we had left over from last year’s budget. However, we currently still owe the Diocese for our assessment. Our application for assessment relief is due at the end of May to the Diocese.

Thanks so much to seminarian Ethan Lowery for providing our reflection for yesterday's service. If you missed it, you can see the Zoom recording (see information below) or go on our Website.

The Very Rev. Dr. Peggy Patterson joined us in the congregation Sunday. So nice to see her again. I hear she’ll be giving the reflection for the May 24 service.

Many thanks to all the folks in the Worship Committee who are working so hard to continue both the Thursday Morning Prayer service and the Sunday Service.

Many thanks also to Deacon Dani for presiding at Sunday’s service and for providing a workshop after “coffee hour” on pronouns. It was great to finally understand and consider the differences between gender identity, gender expression, sex at birth, being physically attracted to, and being emotionally attracted to, in determining which pronouns a person prefers in referring to him/her/their/other-self. Dani said some groups now include pronouns on name tags so you don’t have to ask. For instance “My name is Dani, they, their,” or “My name is Sandy, she, her.” What do you think?

Thanks also are in order to to Don Goerlitz and his daughter, Jnana, (she operates her Balance Point Shamanism program at St. Alban’s), who are watering the courtyard and front yard plants. It’s all about stayin’ alive. In addition, neighbors have offered to step in and grow herbs in our raised gardens. I don’t know if they want to be publicly identified, but St. Alban’s is very grateful.

I know it’s easy to feel alone when you shelter in place, but please know that your friends and prayers at St. Alban’s are with you. I look forward to seeing everyone soon — either in person or online.
— Sandy

In light of public health recommendations to increase social distancing and reduce the incidence and spread of COVID-19, St. Alban’s will suspend rental use of the building until at least May 31. No group or individual use of the building will take place. At that point we will reevaluate the situation and decide on future rental policies. St. Alban’s has no known cases of the virus currently among its staff, visitors, or volunteers. However, as a community gathering place for people of all ages, we have determined that these additional measures are required to ensure the safety of the St. Alban’s community and the public at large.

**Special Note: Barbara Hill's beautiful photographs which she fashioned into Greeting Cards are available in the office for a donation.
