St. Alban's Episcopal Church
This Week at St. Alban's
August 3, 2020
Dear Friends,
It was so good to see a couple of people on Zoom Sunday that we haven’t seen for while. Steve Denney came, and so did
Blondelle Barnes who was assisted by Robin D’Oyen. Susan Matteson is back from Jamaica, but an electric outage at Faith Matteson’s London boat meant she had to miss the service.

Deacon Dani Gabriel gave the reflection on Matthew’s version of the loaves and fishes miracle, speculating that the miracle may have consisted in the thousands sharing what they had with each other, and relating that to our own Project Sandwich. To read their reflection, and their draft of a new poem dedicated to Project Sandwich, download here. To view a recording of the service, click here (Password: ?9gUhKka).

Several of us also attended a lovely Zoom service last night commissioning the Sacred Ground anti-racism study series for the congregations at St. Alban’s and All Souls, Berkeley. The St. Alban’s group starts next Monday under the leadership of Deacon Dani. Contact them for further information.
Rev. Peggy to be new Pastoral Care Minister
The Vestry is pleased to announce that the Very Reverend Dr. Peggy Patterson has agreed to serve as St. Alban’s Pastoral Care Minister. She is taking over from Deacon Dani, who is seeking full-time employment. The job, which is for up to five hours a week, is a temporary position until St. Alban’s names a priest-in-charge.

Pastoral care is literally about taking care of the people, and covers a variety of responsibilities. Although it has traditionally included “pastoral visits,” these will have to be done remotely as St. Alban’s observes current health and safety restrictions.

Prior to retiring and moving to Santa Fe, Rev. Peggy was rector and dean of the Cathedral Church of St. John in Wilmington, Delaware for 10 years. She moved to Albany a few years ago to be closer to her daughter Harriet, the mother of her recently born sixth grandchild. Peggy has two other adult children. She is Assisting Priest at All Souls Episcopal Church in Berkeley.
More free stuff
St. Alban’s former rector, the Rev. Jim Stickney, took the old metal sign off our hands last week, along with the wooden spool. Andrea Mendelssohn is taking some of our retired fencing. We still have 34 folding chairs (see below) that need a new home. The upholstery is not the best, but they otherwise are sturdy. If you want some or all of them, contact Sandy Burnett this week at or 650 678 0149 to arrange a pick-up.
Have a wonderful week everyone. Stay safe. — Sandy

In light of public health recommendations to increase social distancing and reduce the incidence and spread of COVID-19, St. Alban’s is suspending rental use of the building until further notice. St. Alban's will follow the diocese, state, and county mandates as to re-opening phases. As a community gathering place for people of all ages, we have determined that these measures are required to ensure the safety of the St. Alban’s community and the public at large.
**Special Note: Barbara Hill's beautiful photographs which she fashioned into Greeting Cards are available in the office for a donation.
