St. Alban's Episcopal Church
This Week at St. Alban's

Monday, July 22, 2019

Dear all,

It was a musical, artsy weekend just past at St. Alban's. In case you missed it, Saturday night was the Solano Ave Art Walk, and we were a stop on the route, featuring photographer Becky Jaffe, several young artists from YouthSpirit Artworks, and two different live music trios. It was a magical time!
Sunday (after visiting St. Aidan's in San Francisco with our College for Congregational Development team) I had the great pleasure of hearing the Almir Cortes trio with Harvey Wainapel at our (sold out!) Third Sunday Concert.

(Photos, clockwise from upper left: Tangled Root Band – Patty Contaxis, Linda Schweidel and Dan Ringer-Barwick; YSA art and artists; Becky Jaffe – center back, in white dress – and fans; Harvey Wainapel, Brian Rice, Almir Cortes and Scott Thompson)

Hope you are finding plenty of beauty in the world around you. As Steve Hitchcock preached on Sunday (see below for the link to his sermon) there are certainly enough things to worry about – and it is also true that grace and beauty surround us.

Speaking of YouthSpirit Artworks, if you would like to support their Tiny House project, but don't want to do construction, Dani Gabriel has a sign-up for providing snacks for one of the building days, and you can click here to get a list of items needed to furnish each tiny home and the communal kitchen yurt. (I recommend checking with YSA before you go shopping, because multiple congregations are contributing. You can reach the project coordinator, Hannah Trumbull, at

The Vestry meets this Sunday at 11:30 in the library and we will be discussing our financial situation and steps toward balancing the budget. Watch your mail boxes (physical and virtual) for your quarterly giving report and a letter from the senior warden this week.

Blessings on your week ahead.

In love and gratitude,
Rev. Julie
P.S. Steve Hitchcock's sermon from yesterday is here.

A huge THANK YOU to Ade Akanni,
Chanthip Phongkhamsavath and Mary Doleman, who built a new fence bordering our property line with neighbor Irma Henry. (Irma paid for the supplies, and we supplied the womanpower.) Gratitude, also, to Sandy Burnett,
who provided lunch!
There's still a little finish work to do,
but it's looking pretty fine!
