This Week at St. Alban's

Monday, December 10, 2018

Dear all,

Happy 50th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights! Click on the blue text to read the full document, ratified December 10, 1948. The gendered language is a bit dated, but there is still work to do in achieving, even in the U.S., many of these items deemed international basic rights.

Speaking of which, I am in the midst of a powerful book that our former deacon, the Rev. Kathleen Van Sickle brought back for me from her pilgrimage to Civil Rights landmarks in the South. Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Rights Initiative is a powerful, and sobering read. Stevenson has been providing free legal  assistance to poor people (overwhelmingly people of color) on death row in Alabama, to children tried as adults and sentenced to die in prison (and those imprisoned with adults), and to others on the margins of our criminal justice system. While it's not as light a read as "The Night Before Christmas," I highly recommend it for your reading (or giving) list.

Every year, Grace and I make at least one gift at Christmas time to an organization we feel is doing important and life-changing work. I've started a link on my FaceBook page. Feel free to add your suggestions there!

Meanwhile, a huge thank you to everyone who has turned in pledge cards for 2019, If you did not receive a pledge packet, or need a new one, please click here, and we will zip one right over your way!

Have a beautiful week!

In love and gratitude,
Rev. Julie

Construction news this week:
Interior work continues – electrical, mechanical, and more!
Have you noticed the beautiful stucco job on the new exterior wall along the labyrinth side of the sanctuary?
It's resting a bit (not the technical term...) before its final paint job.

Clean-up helpers needed this week:
Thursday afternoon - clearing off tops of pew protection
Friday afternoon - optional: two people to get a head start on the Saturday work party.

WORK PARTY!
Saturday, December 15
9 am - 12 pm, coffee and other delights provided

Scaffolding will be down! Help us get ready for new carpet installation (!!) next week, and be among the first to see the church in all it's glory!
