Music in Cuba is often a family business... Pacho Alonso, known as the father of pilón was also father to son Pachito Alonso (y su Kini Kini)... Juan Formell’s son Samuel is now doing a fine job of leading Formell y Van Van – if their strong recent album Legado was any indication.... Last but not least, Elio Revé’s Charangón is now run by son Elito.... You can decide for yourself if you think he’s carrying on the standard his father set with this new zany new video for La Guagua, featuring Telmary – I think yes – the sound is slick, the horns are smooth, the drums pure fire, and the coro is catchy... listen for what I think is probably an intentional reference to Ruben Blades’s classic "Plastico" around 1m30s... Guagua, in case you haven’t figured it out from watching the video, by the way, is Cuban slang for bus...

  • Start with a sombrero
  • Towards the end of the sombrero, instead of putting hands behind heads, the lead lets the follows’ hands come down in front of the follow, between them
  • Continuing to holding both of the follows’ hands throughout, the lead then does something like an enchufla on the first half of the second 8-count
  • On the second half of the second 8-count, still holding the follows’ hands overhead, the lead does an outside turn
  • At this point – the third 8-count, the leads does another sort of enchufla, once again lifting both of the follows’ hands over the follows’ head
  • The move begins to wrap up by finishing up the original sombrero, with the lead placing the follows arm behind the leads’ head for the last half of the third 8-count
  • For the fourth 8-count, the follow crosses back over towards guapea
