A Special Message to NJLAP's Networkers Without Borders

Greetings, Networkers!

Hoping this finds you all healthy, maintaining a positive outlook and procrastinating (at least somewhat—see Adam Grant below). We are all sorting out the “for now normal” and what it means for us on many levels. It’s uncharted territory which can be both terrifying and exciting, filled with challenges and opportunities. Since we are not meeting this Saturday, I thought I’d share two TedTalks I watched recently (I hardly ever seem to find time to search through those under normal circumstances) along with an article containing some questions you may find helpful to ask yourself re: career choice and change.

Adam Grant is an organizational psychologist who studies the dynamics of success and productivity in the workplace. In his TedTalk he discusses habits we can develop to access our creativity and become an “original” — thinkers who dream up new ideas and take action to put them into the world.  Does this also apply to how we present ourselves to prospective employers during an interview?

Martin Yates' article on career change, "The 7 Transferable Skills to Help You Change Careers," he lists one of those skills as creativity. See what he has to say and how it may apply to your job search.

Finally, a TedTalk by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of  “Eat. Pray. Love.talks about the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses – a look at creativity from a different vantage point. You’ll have to decide how this may apply to you and your current and future career circumstances and choices.

If you have some extra time (like the 2 hours you now gained back on Saturday), check out these talks. Or look elsewhere. And procrastinate a bit—it’s good for you!

REMEMBER:  NJLAP staff are available, as always, to address concerns and provide support and resources  at www.NJLAP.org or 800-246-5527. We have as special web page with updates on what we are doing for you during this emergency. Or just drop me an email and let me know what you’re up to!
